If you subscribe to the view that CG played his best football in the first half of last season, then it’s been a long time since he reached those levels.

He has his work cut out if he’s to get back to that standard while he’s at Chelsea, playing for Tuchel , a coach that is under pressure to deliver given Chelsea’s expenditure. And a coach that doesn’t fully trust him either.

We might start to see some price ‘ correction ‘ should he become available.

Last season he scored his last goal for us in Feb and never scored again, a total of 12 PL games.

At WBA it was reported that he faded in the second half of the season. He only scored 2 goals for them the last one being in December that season.

In 2019-20 he played for Charlton and Swansea. He scored 6 goals that season the last of which was in November.

I have serious concerns about which Conor Gallagher we would be getting should he return to us, the one from the first half of last season or the one since then. I’m starting to think it could be the latter.

Thanks Willopaedia - interesting stats.

Whilst I'm not as extreme as Lanzo when it comes to my view of Gallagher, as I've posted previously, I remain doubtful about how well he would play with Doucoure and Eze. With Eze playing as an attacking midfielder and Doucoure as the pivot in front of the defence, Gallagher would need to play something akin to the McArthur role and quite frankly his tackling isn't good enough IMO as he doesn't know when to hold back as clearly shown with his two yellows yesterday.

Having said all that, I'd probably have him back at the right price as he offers an alternative option to Eze. A loan? Not so sure because how much game time would he get? It depends on whether or not we brought someone like Soumare in, but that's looking increasingly unlikely.

He is no stranger to yellow cards.
In the previous 3 seasons he amassed 35 yellow cards.

Having seen the second challenge that could easily have been a straight red, terrible challenge

Why is Connor frustrated at Chelsea's when he earns a whopping £33K a week.

The you see that Billy Gilmour is on £50k, Batsy on £90k and this remarkable player as another example
"Chelsea are deciding whether to terminate England midfielder Ross Barkley's contract at Stamford Bridge, with the 28-year-old currently on a deal worth about £200,000 a week"

Yes thanks. Jeff Schlupp is doing a good job running the box-to-box role for us. But what happens if he gets injured? Luka? Hughes?

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

I agree to an extent but we need options over a 38 game season. We saw that yesterday. Did anyone feel the problems were going to go away when Will Hughes came off the bench?

I do worry about how expensive his fee will be, but possibly his wages are (kind of) relatively low.... maybe...? And I agree that the hyper CG of last autumn may not be the one you get all year round.

I know Gibbs-White is seen as insanely expensive, but his fee is supposedly £25m to £42m with add ons. If we had a similar deal where 40% of the fee is hypothetical and justified if triggered, then that's not so bad. As long as it's not one of those counterproductive clauses that sees a player not getting picked, like allegedly Antoine Greizmann (or even JPM a while back - despite Parish denying the mandatory clause being triggered after 15 starts.... which then saw his fee renegotiated despite having hardly played)

After inadvertently inflating his value, credit to Connor for working hard to bring it back down again. If he were to sign, I suspect he'll be a rotation player.

People have short memories. Gallagher was the best thing to happen to our club in a long time last season. Sure, he dipped towards the end of the season a bit. But only in comparison to the insane standards he set for himself.

All of this chat about bringing him in to rotate. Bollocks. If we're lucky enough to get Gallagher back, he walks into our starting XI with his eyes shut. If we can find a way to make him and Eze work in the same team, even better.

Trouble is, he tackles with his eyes shut (and some of his passing).
