A huge negative in appointing Vieira are his extremist views.
He was notoriously airing them for years in public when employed as a pundit.
Most notably when working in Poland for Euro 2012 and remarking on the "lack of black faces in the country."
It was disturbing to hear the Senegal-born Vieira condemn the nation of Poland for being 'too white' for his tastes and he labelled the local population "under educated."
He has been at it for years and it is a dark side to his character I have personally always found troubling.

It also has a lot to do with the way the game has evolved . The days of a rotund Phil Holder controlling the midfield or a ponderous big man up front have long gone . We now see a faster game with athletic attributes trumping almost every other aspect of the game . And lets face it ,you only have to look at the recent athletics , the black boys come out as winners on that score .

Don't you mean Palace Rudi? We are predominantly a black team now with a black manager. The area where the club is based has a large black community and if we take local talent there is a good chance they'll be black kids. Although, I accept we have a fair few black, foreign players too.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is quite noticeable nonetheless.

Because Black kids tend to be more physically mature at a younger age, and speed and athleticism tend to be favoured in the modern game.
This means that the less physically developed White kids with skill often get overlooked.

I agree earlier physical development is one reason black kids get through more, but I think it’s also determination due to childhood situations, plus the amount they’re likely to and do play over white boys. South London estate kids are always playing like kids used to.

Vieira told ITV: "I have been here for two or three days now and I feel strange walking around this city (Warsaw).

“You can feel there is not so many black people around and people look at you strange. I feel there is a lack of education of this country."

It's not a case of being too white for his tastes, he's clearly talking about the way he is being treated by others. It is well known that there is a far right, racist element to some of the football hooligan groups out in Eastern Europe.

If you think what he has said there is an extreme view, certainly in light of the action that organisations such as UEFA have had to take in Poland against racism and a Panorama documentary at the time which showed the below, then you really don't know the meaning of the word.

"Panorama spent a month filming at matches in both the joint host nations and witnessed Nazi salutes from the terraces, black players being taunted with monkey chants, rampant anti-Semitism and a vicious assault on a group of Asian students."

In a statement, Uefa said: "Uefa Euro 2012 brings the spotlight on the host countries and clearly creates an opportunity to address and confront such societal issues.
