Being a bit older (owning own house etc) but having grown up on a council estate I cant help but feel for those families trying to make their way in this world, on or around the breadline, how are they supposed to cope with a doubling of energy prices ? There are only so many subscription cancelling & savings that a growing family can make - to me this is a case where the Government needs to step in & either insist that the energy giants provide affordable energy to the general public during this crisis period (with the energy giants foregoing profits & development investment if necessary) or the government provide realistic income support to those that need it - People shouldn't have to choose between feeding the family or having heating on, or not paying the bill & getting proceedings brought against them - The UK is a first world country & at times like this when the population needs help the Government should act accordingly -

This is about 25%, add the annual regular rises on and the figure hits around the difference. Net zero 2050 is not the great utopian existence as getting there was never a consideration. Trump called it and got hammered. The question of why wasn’t asked. I think it’s being answered now!

Direct debit. You can request that it’s reduced and then pay the difference next year. By then the costs will have fallen so it might be split into next years monthly amounts.

One of the directors of OFGEN has resigned as she doesn't believe that the regulator has enough teeth to deal with the current crisis. I suspect most of us would agree. OFGEN should have powers to force energy companies to invest in power generation from their profits amongst other things.

Lots of people are still mostly working from home too so will have been saving on fares to work which will change to some extent going forward.

General thought seems to be that the high prices will continue through 2023 so I think we'll keep the dd rather than risk getting clobbered for a big bill later.

To be fair, it potentially offers me the chance to make the move to Croatia much earlier than anticipated but there is not going to be this mass return to the office any time soon.

Anyone who lived through the inflationary 70s is less concerned about what's going on. We'll re-adjust and budget accordingly. Folk these days are too quick to whinge and expect to be bailed out by 'the government', forgetting that it's their money the government has to use. Anyway, I received a note from British Gas yesterday to advise that I would be paid £400 in October to assist with my energy bill. Hunky dory.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
