I saw this on another site it's a good question. Who was the last Palace youngster to go out on loan to a lower league club do well and return to become a first team regular. The answer so far is John Salako any advance on that? If that is the answer it's not a good reflection on us as a club as it was Swansea 1989.

Tayo looks very much like a rough diamond, but with his incredible speed and enthusiasm he could be one to watch. The loan will hopefully get him valuable game time to develop as I don't think he's ready for the PL yet. Aside from his set-pieces Banks has never stood out for me when I've watched the U23s. He never seems to impose himself on games and drifts in and out. Obviously I'd love him to make it to our first team and prove me wrong, but I just don't see it. Rak-Sakyi has a real uphill battle with Ebiowei arriving and making an instant impact, Olise to return, and Ayew still going strong. He definitely needs game time at a higher level than the new U21 league.

I cant think of another one. But as you said, its a reflection on the quality clubs academy. Broadly it delivers a gem, every so often, good enough for the 1st team, or nothing. With Tayo and maybe JRS we are starting to get guys that are good enough young enough. assuming JRS goes out, both could be back with us before they are 20 with a season of decent football under their belt.

Certainly my own perception of our youngsters going out on loan is that it is usually the death knell of their career at Palace. Very few of our loanees seem to shine at their loan club and it appears to be justification to move them on when they return. I await to see what happens with Tayo and Scott Banks ... things certainly don't look good for Reece Hannan finding himself in the National League/

Extensive commentary from Bradford mgr Hughes on Banks. Less than 24 hours off the train, playing 95 minutes. The PV effect on Banksy was quite palpable. Bradford's right back was continuously perplexed as I don't think he'd seen many wingers track back as Banks did throughout the full game, but more so, he knew what to do positionally. Continuously applying the high press from the start, the remainder of the front line realized that at these levels the ball has an increased tendency to come loose. So they joined in. He set up several clear goal scoring opportunities whilst leading the break including one down the middle feeding an on rushing teammate leaving it perfectly on a plate 10 yards out, one on one with hull's keeper,...but he missed. All in all, Bradford might be a good starting point for Banks. Especially with Hughes as manager.

I really don't know much about him in all honesty. I hope he does well etc. etc. however I am always very sceptical with too much hype around a young player. The view someone may, may, be good enough for the first team often snowballs into 'the next Ronaldo' or in our case Wilf. Don't like Charlton, not sure many if any of us do but at least he's only round the corner and any cloud that may appear with any Charlton success may now be tinged with a silver lining!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I watch the reserves and youngsters - he made an impression there. Trying to remember if he was the entire league's high scorer - I think he was?

My knowledge is limited to: Banks - Thought he had potential for sure but very sceptical still. Edit: Thought Theorist's post was helpful. Edited by Nicholas91 (11 Aug 2022 3.52pm)

Just announced by the club that Rak-Sakyi is off on loan to the Clowns. However, they have sweetened the pill by giving him a 5 year contract.

Ebiowei has made an impression and is ahead of him, but JRS clearly wants first team football. Good move all around, a step up from the u23s and he won't be away from home. If a teenager attacker can start on a regular basis in League 1 then happy days. That's what I hope he does.
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |
