Yes terms and conditions are better than a lot of private sector employers but maybe that is as a result of the public sector being one of the last bastions of unionised employment. As for pay rises as I have said the issue is perhaps better expressed by the fact that public servants have in recent years when you look at inflation had pay cuts in real terms. Mind you so have many others so all I will say is that I think everyone should get a raise in their pay at least in line with inflation year on year or maybe we all get the we % pay rise as MP's

The old below the rate of inflation is a white elephant to bash hmg. I went 3 years without a rise in the private sector. Difficult to strike when work is a bit scarce but state workers lose the days pay (apparently) private sector lose their job.

As well as a public service ethos I stayed because I saw it as giving me a better work life balance, better job security and a decent pension.
