A la COVID, the worst end of the ranges presented always get over reported... more sensation, more eyeballs. What you then don't read about so often is the mid range consensus which is much more realistic.

Ultimately whatever you 'believe' the point is this – it would be far better for everyone concerned if we didn't use fossil fuels. For so many many reasons. How we transition away from them, and how fast is the debate, not if we should. Build more nuclear, ramp up renewables (commercial and personal) and sack off unnecessary and frivolous use of single use plastics. That would be a good start.

Well CND might have something to say about nuclear. That’s why we don’t have much already. Remember the 70-80s about how we would all grow six ears, five eyes and extra limbs. Hang on have you been to sheppey

Well said. The trouble is too may people don't want to hear or believe the climate message. They reference past heatwaves to supposedly show hot weather is nothing new, or in winter, when you get a cold spell, to glibly say "well, where's global warming now?

Individual weather events are not in themselves an indicator of climate change, but an on-going changing pattern of events, and an increasing frequency of them, is.

Okay, but my bugbear is that we are constantly told that the human race is responsible for climate change and consequently we need to 'pay more' to compensate. But a quick check of the internet and you will find something interesting...I'll try and keep this simple (for may own benefit!).

The Earth revolves around on an axis that is tilted; it's what gives us the seasons as the Earth moves around the Sun during its 365 day orbit. The angle of tilt is not constant. Today it is at an angle of 23.43635 degrees. 30 days ago it was at an angle of 23.43636 degrees. It 'wobbles' between approximately 22.1 degrees and 24.5 degrees. It takes approximately 26000 years for the Earth to experience both extremes of tilt.

This is natural climate change, which we can do nothing about. If there are any proper scientists who can counter this piece of info, then I will gladly absorb what they say.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

Which will move us closer and farther from the sun I guess. But you can’t tax that, but what you can do is blame it on the sunshine blame it on the boogie….. sorry heats got to me

Not being a scientist I am not going to comment on that. However, what would seem to be undeniable is that there is more carbon in the atmosphere than at any time since records began. This creates what we know as the greenhouse effect, where heat doesn't dissipate so easily. There also appears to be ample evidence that it is human beings who are responsible for this.

Pete53, you are along the right lines. Ice core analysis from the end of the last millenium derived ambient temperatures from the dissolved carbon dioxide levels in the ice. Essentially the deeper the ice core sample, the further back in time. The record showed that there was a temperature sway, approximately every 10,000 years (from cold to hot,..and back again)
What these core samples also showed was that from the time of the Industrial Revolution there has been a rise in greenhouse gases in the ice, showing a correlating rise in temperature. The rate of rise in temperature is the steepest recorded and shows no sign of stopping/slowing.
Worldwide political division has made the possibility of seeking a consensus on what this means, or what should be done,..impossible
We are going into unchartered territory.

Meanwhile The Sun has some nice photos of bikini-clad women on sunny beaches stating that "a lot of people are working from home"
The Prime Minister has finished his weekend party at Chequers and took a flight in a RAF fighter jet.

And the price of petrol should be coming down, so getting to the beach should be a bit cheaper. (don't go by trains, all the rails are buckled due to heat)

I disengage, I turn the page.

And they still lay them without the correct expansion joint distance. Surely if it’s got soooo much hotter they would’ve adapted accordingly. I don’t know some people just don’t know s***

...and that is the problem that we face. The increase in heat actually delays (maybe prevents) the next ice age. Previous ice ages have enveloped the whole of the USA, and most of the UK down to the Norfolk border. Do we want to fry or freeze in the future?

Next ice age was due in 50,000 years, the delay is a further 50,000. Tomorrow will be the hottest recorded day in the UK. All over the world we are facing unprecedented droughts and floods. Global mean sea level has risen about 8–9 inches since 1880, with about a third of that coming in just the last two and a half decades. The rising water level is mostly due to a combination of melt water from glaciers and ice sheets and thermal expansion of seawater as it warms.

You do the arithmetic.

I don't doubt the figures you mention. But all over the world there are regions which were once underwater and yet now are several hundred feet above sea level. This all occurred way before man made any difference to the climate and were therefore natural events. These events will continue to come and go on some form of regular cycle, with or without the human race on the planet. My concern is that we must beat ourselves up and pay green taxes to supposedly overcome and control these events.
It's all irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, particularly when you factor in the influence of other aspects of the Universe.

I have to say, watching the news, as someone who does not generally look/listen out for such things, the sensationalism and seemingly directed narrative veers very much from ‘wow, it’s ‘blooming hot’.

The words ‘climate change’ have been used over and over again, it’s almost reporting on climate change as opposed to the weather.

I have no dog in this fight and remain suitably ignorant outside of the basic premises on either side but is does jar somewhat listening to it. Does all have a ‘we love the leader’ repetitiveness to it!

‘As temperatures soar due to climate change’ ‘the effects of climate change’ ‘just a mere taste of what is to come’ ‘a warning to us all’ I could literally go on and on.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
