He's done exactly what would have been expected of him considering the fortune of the draws in the knockout stages of both tournaments. Beat the teams we should beat and come close against the better nations, Italy had experienced World Class players across the team and were in great form going into that final, it was always going to be difficult. I personally believe we have one, maybe two World Class players. Kane being the standout with Foden potentially being the second if he continues to improve. All others are very good players but when you come across Croatia/Italy who have a midfield full of world class players, they can take the game away from you. We play 352/343 because our most experienced CB pairing are too slow to be left one-on-one. The media and some fans are starting to remind me of how they were during our golden generation era, we're becoming far to confident with our team when in reality the squad does not match up to the top nations,, France, Brazil, Belgium, etc

Only Alf Ramsey has achieved more success for England. As for taking the knee, maybe those booing are not booing the players, but booing the taking of the knee, which, in spite of Southgate's protestations, is widely viewed to be tied with the BLM movement, a political organisation which demands for the police to be defunded. In other words, taking the knee is seen by many to be a political statement. Politics should be kept out of football. Southgate should just concentrate on the football side of things and not debate subjects which are not related to the team and how they play. Racism is a problem, but nowhere near as big a problem as some like to portray. Football is supposed to be entertainment, and should be treated as such, not to be used to display pointless virtue signalling. Ukraine demonstrations were obviously fine though. The bit in bold is always the funniest - someone tells you why they're protesting, and the answer is essentially "no you're not". I'm sure Southgate, Kane and the rest of the national team are really pro 'defund the police' and not just sick of seeing their colleagues abused on social media.

Of course there are other countries with players who can take the game away from you, but our squad is pretty ridiculous.

However, England undoubtedly better with Southgate than Roy or Capello. i know he's looked at other sports models, and I think in the case of the subs v Italy, he looked a bit too close at the likes of NFL where it's typical to bring a kicker on purely to take a kick. Doesn't work the same for football I'm afraid and hopefully he knows that now. That said I'm not sure he wouldn't do exactly the same thing if we are in that situation again. I could see that being his eventual downfall, and the camera zooming in on his face, with the country knowing his rein is over, and what might have been...

Southgate will always be remembered for penalty mistakes. Both his own as a player, and penalty-mistakes of others more recently.

There will always be that aspect, but all in all there's definitely been worse managers. It's the English mindset, for good or bad, that if we don't win something it's viewed as the biggest disaster ever. By that standard, almost everything looks that way. Southgate is a woke arse kissing yes man. He is perfect for the FA. Unfortunately, he is a bang average manager who would struggle to get a job in the Premier League. We could well be throwing away our chances of ever winning anything with this generation by having him in charge. We should already have a European Championship trophy and a World Cup final appearance in the bag.

Agree. problem is that he had Reece James and TAA on the bench and Still went with Walker. Can't agree with you about us going forward though....Still had nothing in The final 3rd, bar Saka.
