honestly i have been saying this for about 3 months now he is probably our most gifted all round striker who is much better on the ball than jp but still is having no game time, he needs a good 3 or 4 games playing on the trot as i think he will show vieira he should be starting

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Difficult to pass judgement on him last night given that it was his first start in quite a while and coming into a group of players that looked like they were still not over Sunday's disappointment. This season has passed him by somewhat. Hopefully he will learn from it and improve. I'm still not certain of where he is most effective, and I'm not convinced that PV is either.

Thats the problem with players who can play in a variety of positions , they normally end up where Edouard finds himself most of the time On the bench . Edouard is a support striker for me and would flourish playing in a two . Hes not a winger and hes not a lone striker nor a midfielder .

Thought he grew into it yesterday, as did the team - anonymous first half but had some moments in the second. He clearly has quality; the way he receives the ball in tight spaces and some of the turns he pulls off are clearly beyond the talents of Benteke or Mateta, but he doesn't impact the game as much, certainly not as Mateta. I'd definitely want to hang onto him - there's clearly a talented player there with an eye for a goal.. if it takes a while to figure out how best to utilise him, I think there is enough there to persist with him.

You see many supporters stating he's not strong enough to play centrally in the premier league for us. Was never an issue for Andy Johnson, you have to play to their strengths, we lumped it long a lot yesterday and he can't hold it up like Benteke/Mateta or Murray used to. He had probably one chance facing the goal and didn't connect with it. So far I haven't been overly impressed with him, doesn't seem lightning quick, not strong or tall, his touch isn't the best, hard to see what the best option for him is. I guess we would need to be creating lots of chances for him to score 1-2 a match. We aren't doing that at the moment. All is not lost.. he needs a run of games at least. But I would also like Mateta to play as he has looked most likely to score from all our strikers.

I'm still of the opinion Edouard is your typical 'glory-hunting', 'goal-hanging' poacher mould. That is not a derogatory statement by any means from me, 'tis an art in itself and a highly effective one if mastered. The problem for me is Edouard played in a decent Celtic team, in a league and against teams for which my Nan could bag 15 goals a season and she's been dead for some time now. All jokes and Scottish football digs aside, he obviously has something to bring however the step up to the PL was always going to be a difficult one, alongside the adaptation to a different styles of play to the aforementioned. For me, he looks overwhelmed and not up to the task. I say that with no resentment or anger at all, that's just my take on it.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Fair comment, Nicholas91. I think his best moments have been when he cuts in from the left. I think he has decent close control and an eye for goal. I'm not convinced he has what it takes to play in the centre and, currently, I think JPM looks better in that role.

Edouard looked like he could be the answer in the early part of the season. He pressed well, abetted by Gallagher, looked mobile and made good runs in the penalty area.
