Everything I wrote is factually true. Everything you write on this issue is conspiracy theory. I let others decide which contains more lies! If ever there's a Channel 5 reality TV show called 'Knocking On vs Signing On' where a relentless, establishment geared 80 year old politically dukes it out with a far right benefits bigot I may well have to stop reading the politics section. But until that day..

Generally opinion polls get less truth from right wing voters who want to spring a surprise, Le Pen is oonly 2/3 % behind, anything could happen here
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I tend to think it's probably true, though not because they want to "spring a surprise" but more from the embarrassment and shame of admitting it.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I guess here it's known as the 'Shy Tory' factor, and I'd certainly say it was present with Trump. I've no idea if there is a similar dynamic in France, or what part it could play. It sounds like Le Pen is certainly close enough to potentially spring a surprise, but that the somewhat more likely scenario is that the status quo will win out. Time will tell.

IMHO people like messing with pollsters ahead of the voting day but tend to be truthful with exit polls.

Or because they are vilified by those who don't agree. The so called tolerant brigade can be very loud and intolerant. I know a lot of people who are left centre and mostly sensible about life yet the minute you mention Boris or Trump or immigration they explode like the incredible hulk and make it clear that other opinions are not available. I am not embarrassed how I vote and neither am I ashamed. I tend to bite my tongue whilst others launch into their pro left centre views as I don't feel it's worth falling out with them over politics. You might find that odd as I vent on here, well now you know why, better to vent to strangers than lose one's friends over nonsense such as politics.

Edited by Badger11 (10 Apr 2022 12.14pm) It's a two way street. Plenty tuned out anyone who was a Corbyn supporter for instance, as if it meant that were some kind of radical. I knew supporters of him IRL who would whisper rather add volume to how they talked about him. He wasn't my cup of tea, but it was interesting to witness. With Trump the trouble is that his personal conduct and language is so repugnant towards others that support for him could be seen as a partial endorsement of that type of behaviour and a 'well if you like it that much, have it back' angle. His personality drowns out his politics. Boris, or most of our politicians tbh, is looking out for number one but he has a jokey affable way about him, so I've not really found support for him or his politics to be social kryptonite. Amongst my friends there is more support for him than not really. There is something to be said for not being 'overly' political in real life though. Less about what people will think, and more why would we imagine that others would want to hear rehashes of the same outlook on repeat (typically whatever media tells us we should be oh so concerned about that week). There's enough in life to deal with without being or dealing with 'that guy' on his soapbox! Sensibly shared points of view are fine, but if people keep getting too political or partisan in any direction in the day to day, I eventually just tune out, because it stops being a conversation with a person, and is more akin to either a party political broadcast, harranging, or like being someones therapist.
