Its a no brainer, of all of the players out of contract he is the most important to keep, his screening in front of the CBs is superb, and his versatility.

Agreed

Worked well as a centre back never rated him in midfield.

It'll be a shame to see him leave. Very valuable to us for his versatility and a reliable performer. Other players often mentioned he was a positive presence in the dressing room as well.

Wish him well on his next adventure. We need to be smart in our recruitment/ development to make sure we're covered in the two areas that he was mainly deployed.

Seems he's in talks with Saudi Arabian Pro League side Al-Ittihad, source 'Google Sport'

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

It is no ow pretty clear we have a policy of a one year at a time for me players over 30 (and offering let Ng contracts to those in the early years at the top level.) I get that and broadly agree but older players usually on bigger money will always seek the security of a longer deal.

If this means we don't see older players being paid a huge wedge to not play so be it
Look at Sakho in his last season huge wages and not even warming the bench.

zaha is 30 this year i think? wonder if we will bend the policy?

We are not too small at the back, we dont have a commanding keeper who shouts at the back four

Both are true, to be fair.

If they felt the need, it would be more diplomatic to get him an extension while still 29

What a step down frankly. Disappointing.

Sounds like 'one foot in the grave'.

We have no-one in the ranks like him.

I don't get this at all.

We agree new contracts for 4 players one 34 years of age yet we cannot accommodate Kouyate?

He is still immense I think we will regret it.

100% agree!!! AFCON winner as well. He should have been tied up ages ago. Only thing i can think of is the player himself doesnt want to stay.

Apparently he is negotiating with a Saudi team that kinda tells you where his ambitions lie.
