Government takes the view that football is at the heart of local community and they do not want to disrupt a local club. However their reported sanctioning of Chelsea will cause a major disruption for the club on many levels in the near term.

If this was a legal dispute and the court had granted a worldwide freezing order over a trading company's assets, the court could and would appoint a reciever to manage the assets in the interim. This would ususlally be an accountant. They would trade the business, sell the tickets (and possibly players) pay the wages and other bills and retain any profit under their control on behalf of the court, for the court to resolve later.

when a club goes into liquidation receivers are appointed to run the club & look after its interests until its either wound up or new owners are appointed - in this case who will run Chelsea whilst this situation unfolds or becomes resolved ? As they like playing it so much lol

I can see this dragging on through the courts, as far as I know Abramovich hasn’t committed any crime in the UK. Being a friend of Putin isn’t a crime, questionable but not a crime. So how the Government can steal Chelsea is unclear.

It seems being Russian is a crime at the moment. we don't appear to have offically declared war against the Russian Federation, so why are all these sportspersons being banned as if they tacitly support the invasion?

Well the sanctions are tougher than I expected. He can sell Chelsea but cannot benefit from it which does suggest if the club runs out of money a fire sale. As others have pointed out players who contracts are up and academy players due to sign their first contract can't so maybe some rich pickings at there? What no one has mentioned is next season? Chelsea fans who have tickets for this season are okay but after that nothing unless the government changes it's mind. With no revenue coming in (no TV money) will Chelsea be able to reassure the Pl that they can complete their fixtures? My guess is there will be plenty of people within the club hoping RA sells.
