It's just quietening down round here. Result:- - Damaged fences to back and both sides - our side may be repairable (good job there's a hedge at the front or this could be expensive) - Someone's garden refuse bag and a polymer Meerkat have arrived, our tarpaulin cover for the water feature has moved on. (Thankfully with the aid of the village website all should be returned to rightful owners in due course....) - 4/5 large tress down around the village, but a couple of the garden contractors who live here are out clearing them to one side for the Council to remove (when they get around to it) For those of you still awaiting this to hit, or in the throes - stay safe. It could have been worse!

Welsh weather forecast said a bit blowy and damp. What it actually meant was winds of 80mph+ and torrential rain. And if you go to work, your house may not be where you left it when you get back.

Must of missed your move FH! If you're feeling homesick, my folks report both Standstill Road and Perry Vale look as though a bin truck has gone down them with a hole in the side... storm Eunice has apparently caused a bit of destruction too. That's two self denigrating comments on this thread to two areas I am associated with! Can't help but feel Forest Hill was grateful for the reprieve.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

The woman next to our neighbour just had her fence knocked down. Some of the street's bins in the road, rubbish flying about.

Most trains in London cancelled this afternoon it took me 2 hours and multiple buses to get home (40 min trains journey). Hopefully as the storm dies down they will resume services. I would like to thank the bus drivers for putting themselves out for the passengers, I would but I can't. Too long to go into but they will not be winning any awards from me.

Well, I don't want another day like today in a hurry. These high winds are very scary and reminded me of '87 when all the family tried to shelter downstairs rather than stay in bed. The noise was frightening. We got off relatively lightly today compared with some, but a neighbour's tree came down just missing our garden, lots of branches and debris from various trees. Then we lost electricity. You don't realise how much everything depends on the magic juice until you're without it. Couldn't use the internet or watch TV so a news blackout. Fortunately we've got an old dial phone which we plugged in so as to chat to a few folk. Managed to light the gas hob with a match so soup was on the menu. Just feel so sorry for all those who have suffered damage to their property or worse. And not so sorry for the idiots who went to edge of the sea wall to play chicken with the elements. Hope all you HOLers are OK and looking forward to seeing our team give Chelsea a thrashing tomorrow.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
