Typical of the moral bankruptcy of the West is Deutsche TV banning the RT News Channel (Russia today).

They don't want Germans to see that in Moscow there is no build-up and complete disinterest in a conflict largely made by the west itself.

The traditional Russian view that NATO is their enemy is being shown to be justified.

Russia has responded by giving Deutsche TV the boot in turn.

Good for them.

As RT is a state sponsored propaganda machine and not a "news channel" I think it is much more likely that what the BBC has reported from Moscow is true.

Which is that the Russian people have been told a completely different story and that anything that happens will be solely to protect Russian speakers in Ukraine who are being "threatened". They aren't being shown the build up, and have no interest in something they know little or nothing about.

Nato aren't threatening anyone. That's not it's purpose. The threats are all just excuses for a Putin land grab. Which Nato won't and cannot stop. The members of Nato though will almost certainly use sanctions to try to hurt Russia, which will hurt us all in turn.

Our plan is to virtue signal until Russia surrenders unconditionally. I can see no fault in that.

The West should plainly state that they would come to the aid of Ukraine with military force if the Russians invade, it is the only thing that stops the likes of Putin. The West's craven response sets a dangerous precendence and of course the EU has been complelty useless in this - surprise, suprise. [Steeleye's support of Putin is a disgrace, but not unexpected.]

We could always deploy soldiers to Ukraine's borders to take the knee.

It'll be just our luck if we qualify for Europe after all these years then draw Dynamo Kiev

Airlines are now cancelling flights to Ukraine, would make more sense if, at the same time, they also cancelled flights to and from Russia

We shouldn't be here.

This represents a giant failure of principally both the current American leadership and of Nato's policy since the Berlin wall came down.

Still, no mean tweets eh.

Let's not forget that Trump was complaining about the Russian gaspipe lines into Europe at the start of his presidency and how it compromises Europe....he did this and received all the usual stupid commentary in return.....no one is laughing now.

Now Johnson is literally saying the same thing....but the reverse will be massively costly.....Who are the f***ing idiots who come up with this stupidity....Why aren't they held accountable?

War will bring significant increases in gas prices and god knows what else when we already have more inflation than I can remember....and this is upon gas prices that already are about to at least double. If you're have a few bob then it's less important but people are suffering right now....feck knows what this would do.

Trump was right and he also sanctioned Russia significantly while in office but importantly he got on with Putin and as a nationalist himself he understands the need for buffer zones.

It's obvious that the west are pushing into Ukraine, from Biden's dodgy deals to leaderships making requests to join anyone with half a brain understands the direction of travel. The Russian response in some form was always likely.

What the feck are we doing over there in Eastern Europe....Poland I can understand as that was not communist until Stalin....but Ukraine always had a Russian influence due to its geographics.

We need Russia....They are European and we need them distanced from China not forming alliances. Who are these people being paid to f*** things up.

It should be the sons of these bureaucrats, corporates and politicians in the front lines in danger....not normal common people...perhaps then they would think straight.

So so f***ing stupid.

One basis flaw in your argument, which has some merits, the People of Ukraine do NOT want Russia in their country

Who wants an invasion?

My anger is about how we got to this stage.....and the stupidity of relying upon countries that you then war with.

My anger is multifactored on this but ok, lets just talk about us in the short term.

Politicians have been keen to talk about 'disastrous effects' on the Russian economy but it's obvious that little be being said about the affects to us.

If there is war and Russia or Nato switch off the gas then there would be rolling blackouts in Europe. This would lead to energy rationing, which would obviously sky rocket prices.

That means access to gas anywhere becomes a high valued resource that's then competed on and we buy gas from Belgium and the Netherlands.

Wholesale gas is an integrated market and a war in Europe affecting supply will see prices rocket in the UK above what was already coming.
