The latter in my opinion. One of the worst attempts at a penalty in the PL I can remember.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

His left foot clearly slipped on the dodgy pitch.

Won us a point but cost us two.

Absolutely wonderful goal but he looked very unsettled leading up to taking his penalty. It seemed to take ages?

He came back from international duty.... he's our 'star' player.

He was asked to step up and to be more consistent.

Scores a wonder goal...

Then absolutely fluffs a penalty...

INCONSISTENT

His head isn't in the right place.

Wilf pretty much killed our attack in the first half. Scores a wonder goal out of nothing. Then fluffs a pen to cost us 3 points. That sort of sums him up these days.

He's still one of the few/only players we have who can score a goal from nothing, but he also bogs down the offense at times. And that's not even mentioning his discipline issues.

I hate to say it, but when he isn't playing, I don't really miss him, which was never the case in recent years. I hope he stays on the team, but for the first time, I'd be ok if we got a decent offer for him.

I was recalling with someone yesterday that great 5-3 win against Bournemouth at the end of the 18/19 season. Wilf got a yellow card, almost certainly for retaliation, and was visibly seething at what he saw as the injustice of it. Barely a minute later he got the ball on the left wing and took off like a bat out of hell, and it was obvious that nobody was going to stop him. A defender half wrestled him to the ground but he regained his feet, went on and passed the ball to the onrushing Andros, who swept it into the net. As one journalist said, you rile Zaha at your peril.

Why oh why can't he always react like that rather than sulking?

Bournemouth had been winding Wilf up for a while, and the away fans were shouting at him right before this goal.

I was at that match, sitting in the Arthur, and everyone jumped to their feet when Wilf evaded that rugby tackle, he was on a mission, and you could tell what was coming. When the ball went in the net, the crowd went crazy. We were singing "He's just too good for you" for like 5 minutes after. Such a fun match, thanks for reminding me!

Goal is here...

It took an eternity for the ref to blow for the pen to be taken.... during which time I could hear monkey chants or something parallel to that... all very unnerving. This chant could be heard every now and then throughout the game.

Mine's a light and bitter.

Us fans at the game sang his name after the miss.
Clearly still wanted. He did up his tempo in the last half hour.
Respect the point it keeps one team well behind us.

Yeah let's drop and get rid of our best player because he doesn't smile, that makes perfect sense
