Look stateside at Trump and Biden. Do these elected 70 somethings really conduct themselves with more dignity or care more about their people or country than our Queen? If anything they only got to this position due to the influence and corruption that is rife in politics. I get peoples annoyance that the royals, but she has a decency and concern that's detached from all of that nonsense and so holds a valuable place in public life in my view. Good post. I for one am not particularly concerned with the 'Royals' either way. I have always seen them as existing ceremonially and as an almost real life soap opera for those with nothing better to do with their minds or time. Personally, I have a real fondness for auntie Betty. To an extent her life has not really been her own. Nonetheless, her decorum, conduct, attitude and presence have not only been impeccable but you do hear the oft story that makes her very relatable, even drove an ambulance during the war did she not? Or have I imagined that? If not for the institution I think for the person a lot of respect has been earned, from my perspective anyways.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I'd rather a monarchy than our current system. Not with Charles though. I presume he won't be King Charles III anyway, the others were not exactly auspicious.

It's been a great act. And its time for the final curtain with her passing. It's not the loss of Royalty that would be my concern but what woul fill the vacuum. I'll take Charles over super rich Arabs or Americans buying up our heritage.

I was also thinking of the Royal Land they steward. Vast swathes of it, much of it open to the public. Lose the Royal Family and is the land sold to speculators, or developers ? Access to the public denied and entrance fees charged ?

I feel total indifference to her and to the day - I have to say I find some of the adoration very hard to understand.

A royal visit to Wales, with perhaps a slight lack of dignity shown by the locals in the village.

In this 'Tw@tter' and 'Dork Web' age of instant reactions, weirdness and extremes, it's quite reassuring to have a steadying influence who acts with dignity and decency despite the challenges around her. In my view she's rarely put a foot wrong, and you certainly don;t have to be a royalist to think that.
