Rooney's thoughts on the matter.

"We are in a difficult position, I understand that, and I feel other clubs have tried to take or have taken advantage of that. Whether that is Wigan with Graeme Shinnie or Crystal Palace with Luke Plange. They have seen an opportunity. There is a reason why they have come in and tried to do it now because they know they are getting the players a lot lower than the value they are valued at."

Ah New Malden. I lived in Worcester Park at the time and used to catch a bus to New Malden where I changed and caught a trolley bus to Kingston

Being slight and VAR will only works if playing for Liverpool

With VAR in its current state it might not be such a drawback to be slight of frame.

My guess is we saw a bargain and went for it the same way as we were robbed by other clubs twice when we went into administration.

It's a cruel world and I hope derby survive but I think Steve has spun this to help Derby sell it to their own fans. That does matter I can remember clubs and fans crowing when they bought out players on the cheap, it sticks in the craw.

At least Steve was classy enough to dress it up as we were doing derby a solid.

i think we have behaved quite well.

We've given them a decent price for a player who until a few weeks ago had never kicked a ball in the Championship and paid it upfront plus loaned him back.

Yes Derby may have wanted more but i also suspect they would have accepted 1/2 that amount if we had given them a take it or leave it offer.

I remember Jason Cundy looking quite a useful cb until he put on some weight but this guy has a very good record for his age,

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

We have fed £1m into their coffers while leaving the player there. If that is taking advantage...

If Derby had not be in trouble would they have wanted to sell him? I suspect not judging by Rooney's comments.

If they think he is the real deal my guess is they would have kept him unless they were offered silly money.

In the circumstances £1m for an unproven player is not a rip off but we did take advantage of the situation.

Just like Wigan did us a favour paying £1m for Victor Moses. Their is no altruism in football. Simply buying a player in a fire sale for the equivalent of 7 weeks of Donny VDB’s wages.

The comments from the Granny Shagger must infuriate Steve Parish. We went out of our way to ensure Plange was loaned back to Derby despite the transfer embargo. We are paying his wages and giving a fair value for a largely untested youngster.

To them say we’ve “taken advantage of the situation” shows how thick the bloke is. I feel for Derby and their current situation. I think they can do a lot better than Rooney.

I had to smile when I read your post as it could have been written by Captain Beaky himself.

We obviously wanted to sign the player and rumour had it that our original offer was just £300,000 but had to increase it to £1m in order to sign the player and not out of any altruist notion.

We didn't want him right at this moment as we already have three strikers plus Jordan Ayew so it suited us to loan him out and Derby County are playing at a much higher level than the other clubs that we have loaned players to and miles ahead of what our development squad are playing.

"Paying his wages" I doubt it as we won't have loaned him out free of charge

We have taken a punt for the future.
Subject to how the rest of his season goes I can see him being loaned out again next season.
As for Rooney - I admire his loyalty to Derby County and i hope he does well as a Manager in the future - but to have a go at us?
He should look at those above him if he wants to see who has taken advantage of a situation - Derby is a basket case!

I wonder if all else fails and the club goes in to liquidation whether we could buy the ground as a) it's much better than Selhurst Park and more importantly b) it's much nearer to me

I can see a few negatives though
