I understand both the humorous and critical comments about PV. I was totally in favour of his removal, but I would add that we had a very good first season under him, with initially some really exciting football, and I liked the guy and would wish him every success.

Im afraid Vieira is one of a long line of great players who don't / didn't make good managers. Many have tried but very few make the leap. A few exceptions- Conte, Cruyff, Ancelotti, Zagallo, Beckenbauer, Guardiola. Although out of these only Cruyff and Beckenbauer were truly greats. As apposed to the many average players that make top managers ie Wenger, Mourinho, Ferguson, Sacchi, Klopp. They cant relate to the average professionals. I cant see Vieira ever lasting long where ever he manages.

Another great player who became a good manager: Stevie Coppell.

Incorrect, we had a good first half of the season, when the players still had some of Roy's organisation in them, and Gallagher was flying, when the season progressed and Gallaghers form dropped and Eze was sitting on the Bench we saw what an arrogant, self-centered clown he was.

I’m with you, he saved us from another season of the dull attack shy dross, especially at home that we’d had to suffer with Roy. Completely freshened it up and made it an enjoyable season.

Isn´t Veira the only manager in Palace history to finish a season in the PL with a positive goal difference? Edited by mogrem (20 Jul 2024 3.06pm)
