There must be something wrong with Wood as teams do not sell there top goal scorer . They triggered a release clause. Cos they can. But to be fair he is a decent player, and will be fine in the Champs.

Triggering release clauses is the best way forward for Newcastle as it avoids any further fee negotiation. £25m for a 31 year old though....

Burnley historically could hardly be considered as very active in the transfer market themselves but things seem to have gone very quiet there (even more so than before) since the new owners took over, taking loans out against the club to pay for it. I think this is their year to go down. Originally posted by NEILLO

Maybe Burnley will line up a bid for Benteke now... he'd suit their style of play and probably be very happy for a new opportunity. Win/win...

They can sell this player to Newcastle for an over the top fee whilst claiming to the other PL clubs who opposed the Saudi takeover that they had no choice due to the release clause.

I think this is their year to go down. I read in an article pertaining to the FA Cup tie that Burnley lost 2-1 at home to Huddersfield and the reporter stated that it felt like an end of the era at the Lancashire club. Burnley this season have played 17 PL games, have attained 11 pts and are 18th in the league. 2020-21 - 16 pts, 17th position. Burnley's 'Net Spend' covering this and the previous 2 seasons is approx £26 Mill. Edited by Willo (13 Jan 2022 10.06am)

According to Jordan yesterday, there wasn’t any release clause. Burnley fans on phone in, thinks it’s good business for a 31 year old, who isn’t the same this season.

That wouldn't surprise me, when I heard that the 19 PL clubs had pledged not to sell to Newcastle I thought how long will that last. Well it didn't take long not that I blame Burnley it's good business. As for the pledge why wouldn't you sign up to it, it just means you can add a few millions onto the fee if Newcastle come calling.
