It can't be a player who is only going to be here for one season, Zaha is always a target and no one can ever imagine the frustration he must feel. He's paid circa £5m per year and he's a professional.

You hear stories about players doing this deliberately normally so they can enjoy Christmas, a bit late for that so not sure what Wilf is up to. Poor show Wilf you let your team and yourself down.

I had come to terms with Wilfs petulance. I accepted it as part of his make up, his DNA. Take that side away and who knows what would be left... However yesterday does concern me. His overall performance was unbelievably poor. When he got the first Yellow I said to my son, he's heading for a Red. I just didn't think it would happen so quickly. I think he's at a career crossroads. He's lost a bit of pace but he still has the ability to be an integral part of the team. Whether he wants to be is another question. He had his house up for sale recently and I don't know what to read into that - doesn't necessarily mean he's leaving Palace. I agree with all of this. His game has definitely changed. He has lost that pace to go by his opponent, rarely attempts to beat his player any more. However he has chipped in with goals. Id much rather he stay but we are in such a better position now as a club to manage his departure if indeed that happened. I would have hoped that the burden of carrying the club over the last few years being lifted somewhat may have given Wilf some freedom but perhaps we’ve just seen the best of Wilf or at least the Wilf of before who terrorised defenders on the wing and beating players for fun. Maybe he has just transitioned into a different style now. He’s been beaten up by defenders his whole career and carried this team for years you could understand it if this was contributing to his game needing to change at 29. With regards to his sending off, yes refs are gunning for him but he makes it so easy for them. The push for the second yellow was just plain stupid. He should be using his brain at 29. The frustration or passion is just way OTT. For me he’s the best I’ve seen - but I just think he’s on a natural cycle of his ability reducing slightly. Still an amazing player but perhaps our expectations need to be reduced too. He’s not the player he was anymore. Edited by MonsterMunch (27 Dec 2021 9.39am)

It seems to me that he has a lot a bit of his pace which was a key factor in getting away from defenders and enabled Wilf to on occasions just run past them rather than trying to beat them through footwork.

Can't agree that he was even OK today. Every pass went astray, easily dispossessed, no pace, no enthusiasm. Awful. Hasn't he been involved in some housing scam...might be playing on his mind.....just trying to come up with some reason he's bee so poor lately... Edited by spartakev2 (27 Dec 2021 12.59pm)

I had come round to the opinion that we might as well keep him now because he has the occasional flash of something special and who on earth is going to pay top dollar for him now he’s lost his pace, is almost 30 and is on circa £130K per week. However, having been utter toilet for most of the season and after yesterday’s appalling show I would sooner be rid of this petulant ‘has been’ who is currently stealing a wage from us and who is actually now just a distraction and holding us back. Get him gone to Newcastle for £20M and reinvest the wages in some decent younger players. Edited by Phil’s Barber (27 Dec 2021 11.14am)

I think the suggestion that we cut our losses (whatever those are) are a bit premature. Nobody knows how long Eze will take to get back to full fitness. Aside from Gallagher he remains our only serious goal threat not forgetting the chances he recently put on a plate for Edouard and Benteke. A few weeks ago he got the goals that gave us back to back wins against City and Wolves. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (27 Dec 2021 11.16am)

the problem is that referees know that Wilf sulks and frowns. So they reward him very few fouls & punishments to the opposition. the red card yesterday ? its been in the post for quite a while. There could be many more red cards. In which case, Wilf is a liability.

Before VAR, this is what the FA did, i believe they called it 'Retrospective Punishment' or trial by TV, of which Sky & the bbc took great delight in highlighting who they wanted punished after the match(es) had finished.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
