Well, FYP still like him. They've produced this for all those that love stats etc . . .

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

He’ll get better wages staying with us.
Can’t see anyone accepting his current wages + a fee.
Not the player he was but still a 1st XI regular for me.

He's lost a step or two, and can no longer run past defenders like he used to. His attitude is also maddening at times, and not getting any better. He's not good enough to play regularly for a top 6 team. More like a bench player for Spurs or Arsenal.

All that being said, he's our best finisher by far. If he gets half a chance, he can often score, and if he gets a sitter, he scores it. You can't say that about any other player on our squad.

He's also an excellent passer, maybe our best. And once he gets in the box with the ball, he's very dangerous. So unfortunately for him, he's way more valuable to us than any other club. Plus the sell on money we would owe to ManU is another big disincentive for us to sell him.

I hope he stays, since he is a legend here. But if he leaves, I'm less nervous about it than I was 2-3 years ago.

I would try to sell or swap him now, i wouldn't offer him more than a two year extension at 60k a week. Eze is on 30k a week i would rather up his contract, maybe America with Beckham for Wilf

Can I ask how you know that with any authority? Also, I would be amazed if Clyne's current contract was at anything like c£80k per week you mention.

its common knowledge on many websites that are supplied by the agents, paid obviously, also unless the rule has changed in the last eight months anyone who is offered a reduced salary contract is entitled to a free transfer, some accept the new offer voluntary but some of the more egotistical ones don't

Really? I didn't know that and thought that it was only Spanish law that it applied to

It basically comes under employment laws, if any employer offers a employee a reduced salary they are entitled to leave, or voluntary except the new salary, it happened to me about 13 years ago to me, 6 of us were offered 2/3 of our salary, 2 accepted, 4 rejected and got a minimum pay off, i sold up and moved to Lanzarote

I note what you say; however, I suspect both Benteke and Clyne accepted offers considerably below the numbers you refer to. Both seem settled in London, probably didn't want the upheaval domestically of moving somewhere else and are unlikely to have got significantly more than what Palace offered - especially in times of football clubs finances being severely impacted by Covid.

Clyne was out of contract in the summer, so I don't think that rule applies as he became a free agent and we chose to sign him up again. Also, why would we offer £80k to a reserve full-back who is really only here to cover until Ferguson is fit (if that ever happens).

I heard rumours Bentenke accepted a pay cut to around 70k pw, but I've never seen anything official. Given the club was offering reduced terms to other older players like Townsend and Cahill that would ring true. If he did accept lower terms I doubt he would be shouting about it.

Swap him? You wouldn't get a Messi Panini sticker.
