For those saying it’s not a sitter... have a look at the attached

How low is the bar for Benteke now that people are saying that isn’t a sitter ffs

Indeed, fir a PL/International striker, it was a sitter. Wouldn’t have been so bad had he actually hit the target and it was saved

But he’s the best header in Europe apparently, even though he could do his own miss of the season competition

1) Did you see the assist he gave for Ayew last year? His passing is far from atrocious.

2) One of his goals from earlier in the season was from exactly the same position and situation you're referring to. He buried it.

So change the record hey?

If you have to use an example from last year (do you mean the season before last as Ayew only scored once last season when Wilf set him up v Leeds?) it makes your argument quite weak.

Also, if he buried a similar chance (assume you mean the Newcastle goal) then again that just confirms that he should have scored the other night.

We look much more dangerous up front when Benteke plays, he gives their CBs a tough game. He holds the ball up and creates space for other players. Yes he misses some chances, but he gets in the position to have those chances, which others don’t seem to do.

We may ‘look’ more dangerous up front but we are a lot less likely to score.

You also can’t directly compare Edouard’s goal threat to Benteke’s because OE is generally played on the left out wide and Benteke as an out and out centre forward.

I’m not anti Benteke, in fact I was singing his name on Tuesday night, when he came on, just as loudly as anyone else. But his first touch was a shocker (mis control), he failed to press the keeper & defenders on numerous occasions despite his fresh legs, his passing/distribution was poor and his miss was yet another howler and probably cost us the victory and three points.

Hope we have seen the last of Benteke soon. OK, he scores some goals, but how many misses must we endure? And I fully agree, Phil Barber, about everything else you pointed out about the Belgian. Add to that, he never seems to anticipate any danger in the box. He is just there....

Something for 'Lanzo' & 'sprites' to, er, discuss?

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

I think that’s probably a fair statement. But it’s also not a massively controversial one. Every one of our strikers probably offers something slightly different.

Yes, Benteke does offer something different to a competent CF
Poor finishing, lack of movement and anticipation, poor hold up play, first touch like a non league CF, lack of pace, he isn't even good at heading, but on the plus side he can jump high.
Edouard or Mateta or Sorloth never get or got a decent extended run at CF, and they all had decent scoring records before arriving here, Ayew is better at CF, Wilf is terrible in the centre. Benteke record says it all 16 goals in his last 115 premiership appearances, my personal opinion 65m of wasted money on a utterly useless CF

I don't want him to play badly, I'm sure he will start today and i hope he will get a hat trick, but i suspect he will get muscled out by Maguire and produce absolutely nothing

CB normally plays well against Maguire. I remember a towering header he scored v Hull when Maguire never got near him and again v Leicester after Maguire moved there

That picture says it all... I find it incredible there are actually people on here making out that this chance was harder than it looked.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
