Folks, let's get real. We weren't able to beat a relegation headed team like Burnley yesterday. Let's concentrate on improving ourselves in the PL. There were four games we should have won that we tied Imagine where we would stand if we had eight more points.

Too right ... let's have a few years of consistent football and not worrying about relegation before we think about the next step. There's a reason why it's usually the same teams competing in Europe.

It would need substantial further investment in players.

We are progressing well, let's set our sights on maintaining and improving, not chasing the game.

To be fair Chelsea couldn't beat them either

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

Exactly.

This is Burnley. They had a good run in recent games, we have a rubbish record against them and they were at home. Many pundits backed them.

Glad to read some sensible comments on this thread. We all want to see our club progress, but Europe can wait.

Let's concentrate on improving things like the way we handle set pieces in the PL first.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I compare the expected success of a club to the size of its attendance.

In those terms, compared to the average Palace has been punching above its weight for some time now.

Things have been positive recently in terms of play, if familiar in terms of position.

That said, I think the stadium and attendance size has to be addressed for the club to make significant progress.....and that's a whole other ball game.

Very interesting Stirling.
Why is the attendance so important these days? I thought financially it represent about 12% of our total income. So a 25% bigger ground would generate approx another say £3M pa which surely is hardly a game changer.?
We are graced with amazing atmosphere compared to most premier grounds.
So I calculated that a reasonable ROI of the new stand would only just be covered by the increased revenue. This assumes we fill it yet we are not running at capacity this season although historically we know we are quite capable of bigger crowds.
Or is your thinking for other reasons than pure financial?

If we hadn't dropped undeserved points earlier this season to Arsenal, BHA, and Newcastle, we would be in 5th at the moment.

So it certainly is "possible" for this team to reach Europe. It would require a lot of luck at this point, since we've already given up those 6 points that we should have had. But it's not impossible.

On the other hand, since we have so many draws, and not so many wins, it's also possible that an unlucky stretch of matches could see us drift down the table.

At the moment, I feel like I'd be really happy with 7-9 place, ok with 10-12, and disappointed with anything below that.

2017 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Middlesboro
2018 Jan. (Sako) Palace 1 - 0 Burnley
2019 May (Batshuayi, Batshuayi, OG, Van Aanholt, Townsend) Palace 5 - 3 Bournemouth
2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

7-9 and finishing above either Spuds, Manure or both would give me a sense of enormous wellbeing.

We could do it yes, Wolves are thereabouts at the moment and we played them off the park a few weeks ago. However Manure and Spurs are likely to see a resurgence and I can’t see us finishing above them plus the current top five which we would need to do. Unless of course we put together a good cup run (why not, we’ve got the perfect set up this season), win the cup and qualify that way…….
