If only they 'Rooted' out these problems at the start, then they wouldn't be 'Stokesing' this up into a crisis.

If the YCC board resign, they could easily get jobs issuing fishing licences.

Vaughan is history now sadly for him.
The Kangaroo court has already found him guilty.
His earnings are about to plummet to zero and the world is going madder by the minute.

There's plenty said between friends in jest that looks horrendous in the cold light of day (amongst a wider audience for whom it wasn't meant). I'd say that as good humoured banter between friends, what is acceptable or not should be entirely between them.

Then again you have to be able to judge your audience and know how something is being received too if you're going to say something close to the knuckle. Clearly 'if said' it got a few peoples backs up either at the time or in retrospect. To be remembered by multiple people (if indeed it was) it was likely a stand out event rather than something that was a passing moment.

Even if he did say this though, its not to say that he was say the same thing today. Both context and timespan are deemed irrelevant when someone is in the firing line, which of course isn't particularly reasonable either.

I'm sorry, but I just don’t get all the fuss about a few words said in jest.

If it is so wrong to refer to a chap from pakistan as a P***i, why is it OK to call me a Brit because I was born and bred here?

Two, four letter abbreviations for a place of birth to describe a person doesn't seem that bad to me.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

That omits the context of the words. Calling someone a Brit has no real negative connotations, whereas P**i is more routinely used as a racial insult (hence why HOL censors it), so that they're both four letter abbreviations or are not incorrect in conveying another meaning still strips what is often the meaning and reason for saying these specific words, especially nowadays.

If someones child had learning difficulties and you call them a 'retard' in certain circumstances it might technically be the right term to use, but in a societal context expect the parent to be grossly offended. If someone calls a man's wife a 'bitch' in front of him , fine she's female so again he's correct in a sense, but expect any man worth his salt to quickly correct the language used (unless his other half is indeed a bitch ).

Still, nothing is out of bounds really in the right setting. I'm just addressing your point regarding why words can often fairly be taken in very different ways.

No you haven't.

This case demonstrates everything that is wrong with this county.

Another institution being ruined by immigrants and spineless virtue signallers.
It's an absolute joke that this can happen over some name calling between friends.

If there is more to it, perhaps the more is that board at Yorkshire thought this bloke was a troublemaker and treated him accordingly.

Perhaps he suddenly developed all this angst about alleged racism when he fell out of favour.

Shades of Mark Sampson and Eni Aluko. That whole affair stank as well.

I'm not sure that the lesson here is some blanket conclusion that immigrants ruin everything. That's no more reasoned than the silly 'white man bad' we get from some quarters. Rather it is its mirror image. It encourages a kind a casual blanket racism (the sort that may have occurred here), just as said mirror image encourages largely decent people to be hauled over the coals when the tide turns and such words and attitudes can more readily be confronted.

There is a huge distinction between Pxki and Brit which most of us can understand that word is offensive Brit is not.

I have not read the report but it talks about banter which implies a two way intercourse. What exactly was Rafiq supposed to have said in return? If nothing then it is not banter it is bullying.

If he called Balance a fat b****** or similar type insult (as a joke) the problem you then have is judging insults and words e.g. my Pxki is worse than your fat b******.

I think it is a pointless exercise to start to weigh the hurt certain words cause it is far better to stop this type of behaviour before it gets out of hand so the management are at fault for allowing this laddish culture to exist.

The other problem is that this is all historic what is going on in the dressing room today? maybe all the old sweats have retired and the current squad don't have an issue.

That then leaves the board and how they dealt with this. Do they suspect that Rafiq an average ageing player is looking for a pay day? Is that why they seem so tone deaf?

You're right, that until we know the ins and outs of the report we don't have all of the facts to hand. Even then, there's lots that is frankly unknowable. Such as players may have been shocked and upset about this behaviour at the time, only for it to have fallen on deaf ears or they felt they had to put up with it. Alternatively it may have been a kind of two way ribbing that they were on board with as you say, and only retrospectively took issue with it. I agree that I doubt this stuff would be said today, and so in a way it's a pointless berating of the past. It would have been better for individuals to have resolved this privately, or once it was highlighted for the board to have acknowledged some degree of contrition. That neither took place didn't help matters, and the financial aspect is always there too of course muddying motives.

I love it when youngsters think they know everything.

You do actually realize that some of us were alive in the 60s?

Sometimes I wonder if you are being serious.

I'm really not interested in how offended people are by words.
I'm actually more interested in the future for my children and grandchildren in a country where the lunatics are running the asylum.

I'm sure you're not suggesting I'm uneducated Dan, but I still maintain this whole thing has got out of hand. No worse than calling someone 'baldy' because he has no hair. My mates called me that after two sessions of Chemo caused all my hair to fall out. Jolly japes that's all.
