This is true but he was responsible for signing Terry Venables and nurturing him into a managerial role. Than, in itself, saves him for me. Mind you, I'll never forgive the re-branding. I'm afraid I'm a claret and blue, Glaziers kind of a man.

People are saying it's a poor article. However, it has generated a lot of debate.

Definitely Burley, Coppell's final stint with us wasn't good neither was Mullery, Taylor or Francis and as for Bruce, karma.

Going back a bit but Cyril Spiers can be added to list. Not only bad results but bad football to go with it. More modern ones I would say that Burley and De Boer

According to this, Sir Steve was far more successful than I ever remember and won 565 games for us. If he had put his boots on probably more, a sensational winger, sadly for Man.U.

I was really excited when we got Peter Taylor, thinking we'd be signing loads of exciting U21 players. Instead we got his son in law. That was possibly the most under-whelming era in my time.

Very harsh on Pards and Colin and Ollie to some extent I agree. Pardew was there a long time, and the end was dragged out for so long that it clouded the good stuff he did. The FA Cup final remains our highest achievement. He wasn't great, but certainly not the worst ever. Really not a fan of Warnock, but he almost did an incredible job in 2010, and it's not his fault that he didn't. Ollie.... hmmm. Watching the documentary again just magnified how we were promoted in spite of him. The players all but admit they defied his orders to swing the momentum back to wining ways. If he's lost the dressing room while we're in the top 6, he's got no chance in a relegation fight. Everyone liked him, everyone wanted him to do well, but it was evident that he got some glaring points wrong. The shambolic recruitment probably wasn't his fault, but wanting to invert wingers when we were destroying the division was an unnecessary tweak that almost killed us. He should be admired for admitting he wasn't up to it. It takes some brutal, selfless honesty, and I can imagine must be pretty heart-breaking to say out loud. Most managers would hang in there till the bitter end, in denial of their ineptitude, waiting for the pay-off (for example, Steve Bruce). I can only think of Holloway and Kevin Keegan who have admitted they just weren't up to a job.

Yes, I remember me and my brother watching them thump Reading 3-0 near Christmas, at their gaff. We watched it in the pub together. After that, an incredible surge to get promotion. I actually had £20 on us to get promoted that season matched on Betfair at 990/1. Unfortunately I thought I was being clever trying to lay off as much I could on the last day of the season when it looked like we wouldn’t make the play offs. Still won about a grand for 20 quid but certainly a case of what might have been.
