Give it a rest beak. Boris acknowledged that his proposed tax increases to fund social care reform weren't in the Tory's manifesto. At least he hasn’t tried to fudge it. It'll fund a top up for the NHS too after the backlog caused by Covid. People have been crying out for improvements to the way elderly folk are dealt with and this is the first time in decades that a government has tackled it with vigour. The government have had an unprecedented epidemic to cope with and, in the circumstances, have handled it as well as anyone could IMO. As Boris said yesterday, "A global epidemic wasn't in our manifesto either". It should've been handled better from the beginning especially with all the information coming out of Italy and Spain so the cost of covid (monetary and with lives) would've been hugely reduced. The entertainment Willo brought to us will be greatly lost by everyone whether you liked him or not.

Thought this was the 'official' Willo thread? Not another politics thread designed to descend into yet another slanging match. No wonder Willo's naffed orf

Isn't it annoying ? This is a Willo thread on PALACE TALK like it or not and yet some people (even more annoying) like to go off-piste and debate political issues. Can someone point me out a thread where all the contributors stayed 'on topic' and didn't turn it into a slanging match? The recent 'they kept that well hidden' was a classic case and, belatedly and rightly, the mods got in and locked it. Whether 'Willo' should be on Palace Talk anyway is debatable .....

A tribute to Willo is that it is on Palace Talk and not moved. I find it quite amusing. We're still on about Macmillan. Willo probably knew him personally.

Look, I apologise. I'm afraid it was me who deflected this thread into political territory. Me, and how many times have I commented about threads swerving off topic? Loads. I even started a Magical Mystery Tour thread so you could deliberately move deftly from one topic to another without deviating from the subject. Because there wasn't one. This thread, started by silverfox50, about our chum Willo who some constantly found it amusing to mock, was tainted by a comment about the tories. Well, my flabber was so gasted that I found myself responding without thinking about the torrent of strong views it might generate. So, there you have it. Now stop discussing on here anything other than speculative thoughts about what might have moved Willo to disappear. I am convinced, as I said in my earlier post, that Willo simply became disenchanted by the negative reaction he often received to his posts and decided enough is enough.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

As I had said previously, and will say again: perhaps a week or more ago I PM'd Willo. He replied that he had left the HOL as he felt he was something of a dullard and doom mongerer who offered nothing people found of value. I PM'd him as I realise he is a gentleman of a certain age and these are uncertain times. I just wanted to know he was OK. Which he does seem to be.
