Wilf, Palace in the champ made you look a good prospect. Man Utd in the prem made you look fragile Cardiff in the prem went unnoticed Palace in the prem made you look good, for a while... A player generally gets what they deserve.. do you deserve silver wear from Europe? Right now, no. Has the boat gone... probably.. who's to blame, you and only you. You chose your agent, you chose your entourage.. you chose to not let the football do the talking.

Heed the new rule changes. Minor infringements that got us a lot of free kicks in the past are not going to be given. Look to stay on your feet and look to score rather than look for a free kick. If you are not winning the physical battle or are getting tagged by 2 defenders give and go.

When Conor scored that goal with skill that only he previously could do in our team his celebration was so emotional i wonder if its fired up his juices again

Nor am I but it'd be nice to have a player who actually wants to be in the team. Quite the opposite I think. Wilf looks and plays better when we have another dangerous ball carrier on the pitch as they draw opposition players and mean every now and then he's not doubled up on and finds himself in a genuine one on one. Bolasie, Eze and, to a lesser extent Andros provided this. [Similarly Eze really struggles without Wilf on the pitch for the same reason]. Wilf hasn't had that this season. He also hasn't had PV making overlapping runs or cutting inside and playing sharp one-twos to create the space. Neither of our full-backs has that attacking flair (although they compensate defensively). So I think we should cut him a little slack, at least for the games so far this season. Even on his off-days he's still the most likely to create something out of nothing. If we got rid, he'd most likely be replaced by Schlupp, and a front three of Schlupp, Benteke and Ayew isn't going to keep many defences awake at night.

I agree about his actual playing but I meant more his state of mind. Wilf is always going to be a Palace legend but he’s looked too easily distracted from his game for a while now. Here’s hoping PV coming in is getting him back to what he does best albeit in an adapted way as his pace isn’t what it was.

It was certainly good to see him so energised by Connor's goal. Perhaps the impact of PV's training methods and the introduction of new, young talent helps him see brighter prospects this season. I really have disliked seeing his sulky, petulant and, what appears to be a lazy attitude, in recent times, so whatever can overturn that is a bonus for us all.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
