You are looking at this from the wrong angle. He will clearly get more 1st opportunity at Palace as we are not as good as Chelsea, our squad is smaller and we are actively trying to promote youth and improve our youth team facilities. Chelsea has promoted more players to the 1st team as they have a bigger and better youth set up (probably 10 years ahead of ours) and also had a transfer ban for a year under Lampard. Similarly they have a policy of loaning out players as they have such strength in depth, something we don't have. Guehi is a good example of this - nowhere near 1st team but a successful loan has improved him and his transfer value. Gallagher appears to be going a similar way. For every Mount and James there is a Loftus Cheek at Chelsea. Atta will be getting probably double or triple the wages at Chelsea and will no doubt be paying a large agent's fee. Unfortunately that's the bottom line. Cheek didn't do badly via Chelsea - he made it to the full England squad. Don't think it's possible to treat him as a Chelsea victim Also think you're looking at Palace youth through rose tinted specs. Currently we have brought through who? It's all potential really. The Chelsea system has tended to work really. Livramento at Southampton is another Guehi and then there's Lamptey at Brighton etc. They have a frankly great record in developing youth through to first team football - it's just that they don't primarily reach maturity at Chelsea itself.

I think the key thing is that this isn't necessarily about getting into Chelsea's first team. Assuming his ambition is to be a top footballer, vs play for Palace or Chelsea specifically. Chelsea have showed with Tammy, Livramento and Guehi this summer that they are prepared to get rid of very highly rated talent if they are not going to get in the first team. And the model works as it allows them to go out and buy the Lukaku's of the world. Sounds counter productive. But whilst he might never get in Chelsea's first 11. With access to better coaches he might stand a better chance of being a premiership footballer after 3 years with them vs us. At Chelsea he will be learning from the likes of Makelele, vs the like of Derry.

Latest (probably unreliable) blog - actually off to Nice. Still, no reason to spoil a good anti-Chelsea thread.

Maybe he should have a word with John Bostock before shooting off to Nice.., or perhaps a word with PV who of course was Manager there....

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Atta' by becky I see 16 year old academy player Atta was not satisfied with his wage that was offered and has decided to leave the club.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Atta' by becky How many players show so much potential at 16, only to fail by 18.......

Loftus-Cheek did make his England debut whilst on loan at Palace, but i suppose you have to give Chelsea the credit there. My point is that was over 3 years ago. Whilst injuries have played a part the guy has barely played for Chelsea in the last few seasons and ended last season struggling to get a game at Fulham. Would RLC currently have more chance of getting a game at Palace or Chelsea? The answer is clearly with us. Therefore, i think this logic can be extended to Atta. Chelsea seem to have 2 internationals competing for every position, a luxury we clearly are miles away from.

Great/outstanding prospects at 16 very rarely go on to be good let alone exceptional players. Appears he/his parents have an eye for a buck. What sort of signing on fee did he get when he came to us from Millwall.

Gallagher could conceivably follow the same path. Star with us. call up not out of the question. Then find 2/3 imports ahead of him. Where we differ is that right now I think it's pretty unarguable that Chelsea are the leaders in getting young players off to a racing start in their careers. Their brand helps I guess but they have mastered how to select loan clubs on the development route.

Also who knows if we'll be in the PL in a couple of years time

Apparently he wanted £2k per week which would break our pay structure for youth players. Given he made one appearance for the U18s that seems not unreasonable to reject his demands as he has proven nothing. It may just be that he has people around him who know how to build hype to get good money and he may well not live up to it. I genuinely think if he really was that special then the club would have found a way to get around the pay structure (like a large signing fee); I also think if he was that good he would be going to a better club than Nice. Anyway, he's 16. Good luck to the lad. We pinched him off Millwall so he has no loyalty to us.
