It’s not that Townsend is a bad player. For me he’s not as effective anymore. Having him in the team takes the chances away from another player…Olise for example. So perhaps the wages, his output and the chance to give younger players a chance is why we haven’t pushed to keep him. It’s time to try someone new.

Every good team has two quality players battling for one spot. Imagine starting with Olise, then bringing AT on, with his pace and energy, for the last 20. Nightmare for defenders.

Like many (I think it's many) I would have liked Andros to stay but at the right price. It seems his price was beyond what the club was prepared to pay and I'm backing the club on this. Consequently. I don't think the club were mad to let him go.

Quite right. We have had at times the 7th/8th highest wage bill in the Prem over the last 3 years. That’s quite astounding and also clearly a reason why we have also struggled to make new signings. Townsend at the wages he would have wanted could be replaced by two young players both competing for the same spot. The club are 100% right to offer whats within our means and if that doesn’t suit the players then they must move on. I don’t think Palace are going to be offering the sort of money they have been in a while. Players like Benteke and Zaha may be the last really big earners at Palace.

Think he is probably under-rated by a lot of Palace fans. Provides accurate crosses and has played at International level which is not to be sniffed at Good with youngsters esp remember him helping wan bissaka He was an asset to the club but we want to move on from the Roy era. Thank you Andros and good fortune for your future.

He's really not that average though. Decent player for us. Think it's mad we've let him go. You don’t seem to be with the new direction the club are taking. Moving on old players passed their peak on high wages for younger players looking to impress.

Townsend was allegedly on £60k a week and rejected the reduced terms offered to him by the club. Assuming Everton have matched or improved on £60k. Looking on the Everton forum fans are not overly impressed with the prospect of him signing, but as he’s free they are not too bothered.. Personally I liked him and wish him all the best.

Would have liked him to stay but AT is now officially an Everton player, reunites with Benitez, all further discussion is moot. All the best AT, just don't score against us!!

Even though he had offers from Champions League clubs (according to AT himself), which I suspect are in Turkey and Russia he has chosen to stay in the Premier League (PL) for a very good reason. He's equally as interested in expanding his media career on tv and radio so staying in the PL was absolutely vital. If he was a distant voice in far-flung Turkey/Russia that option would have almost certainly been permanently destroyed. Given how he looks, he's the perfect tv face in the current climate and what with that spectacular hair transplant of his can only look forward to more broadcast time.

Good move for Palace to get £55k per week off the wage bill by not offering a new deal. With Wilf, Eze and Olise Townsend would struggle to get a game. Mind you he probably will struggle for pitch time at the Toffees.
