Given how unpopular the UK is in Europe since Brexit its hardly surprising that no one voted for us, maybe now would be a good time to withdraw from this pointless competition. It might be a factor, but realistically we did really sh!t even before that, mixed in with the occasional year where we did decent.

The UK has demonstrated a decline in position since around 1998 when, (not) coincidentally, the decision was made for the top 5 contributors to get a bye into the Grand Final. I suspect this is considered pretty galling for our Continental cousins who have to go through qualifying rounds to get there. Thus, genuinely divisive countries with questionable European credentials like Russia and Israel will get far more votes than us as they have to muck in with everyone else. The top 5 will rarely appear on the left side of the board unless they do something "special" (in a EV context) like France and Italy last night, the latter of whom fielded a band already popular on the Continent. Thus, we bucked the down trend in 2006 when Andrew Lloyd Webber backed the song. Last night we put out a nobody with a nothing song. And that is another reason we are disliked. We have the biggest music industry in Europe generating £4.5bn a year and divert none of that talent to the biggest popular music show on Earth with an audience of around 180m. Instead, we snootily look down our noses and laugh uproariously at a show they take very, very seriously. Appearing on the right side will remain our normal position for so long as we get the bye into the final and do f**k all to win. Brexit and the controversy over the jabs probably put us rock bottom with "nul points".

Thus this type of camp nonsense offends any decent taste but they can't get enough of it across the channel and other places syndicated like Canada and Australia. Put out something decent (well within EV terms) and this will showcase our industry to a huge audience and possibly make more money?
