I'm not embarrassed, still over the moon with the win.

Brighton looked pretty good at times but, aside from a 20 minute period in the 2nd half, never really looked as if that dominance was going to come to anything.

All those shots but very few on target. This was supposed to be their big chance to show us up and they blew it. If anyone should be embarrassed, it's them.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Why are you embarassed?
A fantastic smash & grab performance with 2 brilliant goals

No one gave us a chance before the match so I'm over the moon especially as we have so many players injured!!

I felt embarrassed up to the 94th minute. Then everything changed. It was a ludicrous result but ecstasy replaced every other feeling. Laughing out loud, jumping up and down ecstasy.

The right place at the right time

We need to do a bit more than a few shots or touches in the opposition box every month or two. Not looking for Potterball before it’s possible, and when we do pass it around we wait for the opposition to all get behind the ball so we have everyone behind the ball just further up the pitch. It’s understandable for some of the matches but not all 38.

What gets me is that we dont seem to have a plan for attacking. I can see weve been drilled in defending, but what's our attacking policy. We used to be a counter attacking team...not anymore, we dont have the pace for it anymore, even zaha holds the ball up these days. We used to play the long ball to the big centre forward..not anymore, we have the big centre forward but dont play to his strengths. So not really sure what our style of play is???

supposedly our stats were better against Liverpool when we lost 7.0.

More possession, more chances created, more touches in the opposition's box etc.

It's a funny old game, however, the law of averages says we need to improve our approach asap as a better team will destroy us

Can remember Palace being on the end of game like last night many years ago against Newcastle. We battered them for 90 minutes and couldn’t tuck one away, injury time Newcastle get a break away, Beardsley scored we lost 0-1. So no not embarrassed or feeling guilty. I’m lapping up every moment and still smiling. It’s a dog eat dog world, enjoy it we don’t get many days like that.

Brighton may have dominated possession but were they unlucky?

Did they have any shots which beat both defense and goalie but bounced back out off the inside of the post or the underside of the bar? No.

Did they have any contentious VAR decisions go against them? No.

Did they force VG into any worldy saves? No.

Were they hacked to bits to prevent them from building attacks? No - not a single Palace booking - not even Luka.

Instead they were completely thwarted by some brilliant defending , and then conceded two excellent goals.

We shouldn't feel any embarrassment, just great pride in the boys who put in a heroic display. And just a little bit of shadenfreude as it was Brighton!

I garland these comments with praise.

Well said. We defended well and took our chances which is exactly what you need to do to win a football match. Some people seem to think extra points are given for style (thankfully they aren't although both goals were pretty stylish).

Good post. Says it all and schadenfreude re Brighton quite appropriate, especially after all their pre-match boasts as to how they were going to thrash us.

Agreed, on NSC last night they were demanding Potter out, fed up with tippy tappy football with no end result. They have won once at home this season. They acknowlegded our best players were out and they still couldnt win.
