I think there is a discussion that could be had over the third test pitch....even though I'm on the side of the Indians on that one. I think there is a discussion that could be had over the third test pitch....even though I'm on the side of the Indians on that one.

However, I don't think there was much wrong with this fourth test pitch....yeah it turned but it was a 300+ first innings pitch, something the Indians showed.

India are the better side...Don't get me wrong, I think England have the potential to be the number one test side....and I could get into how English cricket is run, money allocated, emphasis placed on forms of cricket, selection and all the rest of it....but these are side issues to the main reality that India deserve their number one status.

There must be a reason not many teams go to India and win. Don't get me wrong, the Indian team have some fantastic players, but last time they played over here wasn't it 4-1? They obviously play on a lot of spinning wickets, same as all sub-continent countries do. Just like Australian wickets are flat and bouncy and ours tend to swing. I would hope that we don't get baited into setting up home wickets that no one else can play on, as the saying goes, Its just not cricket.

Don't get me wrong, the Indian team have some fantastic players, but last time they played over here wasn't it 4-1?
They obviously play on a lot of spinning wickets, same as all sub-continent countries do. Just like Australian wickets are flat and bouncy and ours tend to swing.

I think there is always an argument for groundsman being responsible for producing a pitch that allows for a reasonable contest. Still, even if you tried to produce standardised pitches around the world (which I'm not saying you are suggesting) the soil types and climate kind of make it impossible. Still, for myself I'm in the camp where it's the job of the batsman and bowler to be able to perform on different surfaces.....You will get your horses for courses but all this comes down to selection and managemental nous. But the natural bias is to pick the best players in your home conditions and hope they are quick learners. I'm ok with home advantage being more than just the crowd. Top sides will win or draw away but it's always going to be difficult if the conditions and environment don't suit them. We do have some promising bowlers coming through if they can stay fit....Stone looks good for pace and you never know this might be Jamie Overton's year. We also have some promising wrist spinners who weren't chosen here. England have the talent for a strong side, but I don't think the ECB are 'fit for purpose' at enabling one. This has been a poor advert for test cricket, and it is debatable whether we will see it again on terrestrial television. It is back to one-dayers and test highlights I think. Test matches of 2/3 days duration in front of empty stadiums on bad wickets taking spin from the start, it is not good watching. And what do the providers do with the next 3 days which they have already scheduled? How do they cover their losses? Shame as cricket during the covid crisis has been a breathe of fresh air, until this.
