At the risk of being a bore and repeating myself, can you find a word other than "left". Do you honestly think a dyed in the wool Marxist lifelong union type (ie actual left) has any association with any of this inclusivity/woke/gender identity etc. BS? How about MCME? (Middle Class Metropolitan Elite. The last word is ironic) That's a valid point. Problem is that for anybody to reach any kind of meaningful leadership position within almost any and every left-leaning organisation they are required to subscribe to the Progressive Lefts vision on an entire range of subjects. Trade Unions are the prime example of this now, along with HR departments across the board. I always think that a very strong and alternative Left-wing voice that could perhaps rally the more traditional left-wing elements would be Paul Embury. Always been impressed whenever I have heard him speak and whilst I do not agree with his stance on economics, and therefore would struggle to vote for him, I do think he is perhaps one of the few authentic voices left for the traditional working-class Labour voter/supporter. The problem for the Left, in general, is that Labour is simply not fit for purpose anymore in our first past the post electoral system. Under a PR system that would have split into two ages ago but as things stand, offer the only real left-wing voice that means anything in terms of achieving power but with such huge contradictions at work within it causing it effectively to surrender what it is really meant to be. It has lost its core identity and with an activist base at such odds with its traditional voter base in many Northern seats, a political institution in terrible trouble. Edited by Matov (25 Jan 2021 10.12am) I am no lefty as I do not hold with socialism; but the new progressive left repulses me even more for the very reasons you give. As my posts make clear, while I support much in traditional front bench conservative politics (not the back bench right who currently hold the reigns), I am also no right winger. I feel like a colour searching in vain for a mast to pin to. And, I suspect, I am not alone.

It is of course a fair point, there is always a spectrum that exists within any group and labels can be very general. Every group has sub groups and many people sit on different places on the spectrums within them. If I were to describe a description of the left that could be entirely accurate for all its sub groups it would be people who believe in equality and egalitarianism: If I'm wrong it's an honest mistake. It doesn't mean that all within the left always agree with how it's current leaders interpret equality and egalitarianism. I hear you. Edited by Stirlingsays (24 Jan 2021 8.40pm) Just as a point of interest while there are significant quarters of the right who do not favour equality but wish to see resources diverted away from eg foreigners does much of the right not also aim for these goals save through a different route? Thus the left essentially seek to achieve this through state control and collective intervention. The right through individual enterprise with very limited collective action. I am of course not saying what occurs in practice.
