I don't think we have the players to counter attack with pace the way we used to.
We don't have Bolassie anymore, Zaha seems to have lost a yard and Townsend's pace has deserted him.
Can anyone imagine him now running the length of the field and scoring as he did a few years ago against WBA?
We also lack pace in midfield.
Encouragingly Eze gives us a difference during transition with his cleverness on the ball, but we really need an injection of pace up front and on the right.
Sarr would have been a good addition and Antonio would suit a counter attacking approach.
I hope we can address the lack of pace on the next couple of windows.

I genuinely believe 3 or 4 correct signings (not necessarily mega expensive, but correct), could transform our team. Hopefully our manager and our owners can see that too.

I think the fans of every team across the land would say the same thing.

Batshuayi, Eze, Ferguson, Butland and Clyne were particularly good business for £20m over the summer.

No need for 1 or 2 more players this window if that.

We've freed up one place.

My view is that 3 or 4 players who would genuinely transform our team in the PL would cost a significant amount of money and there will be precious little added to our coffers from the players who depart.

We have 15 players who will be in their 30s at the end of this season (Some are already!)and whilst they have experience they are past their best.If many of them are still with us next season on the back of new contracts and there are precious few newcomers due to lack of funds, then God help us!

So you think all or most of the contracts due for renewal should be renewed then? Batshuyai was terrible business, he doesn’t fit in our team and you can’t comment on Ferguson because he may never be fit. Clyne is average, no more than that. Eze and Butland both good signings in my opinion.

We signed Ferguson who had a long-term injury and who hasn't played for almost a year.
We then signed Clyne who never played at all the season before he joined us and whose last game before coming to the club was in May 19.

Batshuyai is on loan so low risk, we now have plenty of options up front.

I think most of the contracts should be renewed. We need a team next season.

We have got to the stage that we now have 15 outfield players either about to reach 30 or who are already in their 30s and there will be no re-sale value for most of them.

These players are only going to get less mobile, lose some more pace, be more susceptible to injuries and of course as one gets older it takes longer to recover from such setbacks.

Of course if there is no desire for any injection of funds to 'Freshen' the squad, then I suppose the only option is to turn "Dad's Army" into "Grandad's Army".

Steve Coppell.
Got us promoted on a shoestring budget with a team he built.
Took us to the equivalent of 3rd place in the Premier League and also a Cup Final.
Wasn’t born in Croydon, but can surely be forgiven for this.

Sir Steve will never be de-throwned, with the money spent on players now, I appreciate even more now the miracle he performed building our best ever team from non-league and lower league players

Everyone is well aware of the age problem.

We have 18 contracts plus Batshuayi's loan expiring at the end of the season. There are 30 contracted season players. A manager can't get by with 12 players.

It would cost well in excess of £100m to replace them, we'd have to hope none of them are flops and expect them to gel as a team straight away. Even our owners wanted to inject that money, FFP wouldn't allow it.

Kelly, Hennessey, Henderson, and Wickham are all surplus to requirements. That would free up around £10m/year in wages.

We've got a glut of centre backs, but can't let them all go. A choice between Sakho(30) Dann(33) and Cahill(35) needs to be made. Let two go, replace one, which will cost £20m.

McCarthy hasn't really seen enough action to warrant a new deal and we could probably get by without him.

If we let any more go, we'd be very exposed.

All true and a genuine concern but not down to Roy

For avoidance of doubt I wasn't laying blame at the door of Mr Hodgson.

IF we survive this season, have no desire to inject funds to 'Freshen' the squad and we are once against reliant on an aged squad, my view is that we will be 'Odds-On' for relegation next season.
