Boris Johnson 'asked for Patel report to be palatable'.

Poor judgement again from BJ, should have fired her as May did.

Which he denies.

A colleague was always getting bawled out by the boss in front of the rest of us he complained to me she was picking on him as she never had a go at me.

I tried to explain to him that at our weekly meetings he would promise her to deliver stuff and then never meet his deadlines, week after week. He always had an excuse.

What really p*ssed her off was he knew he wasn't going to make his deadline often with good reason but it never occurred to him to discuss it with her so the first thing she knew about it was the following week.

I either met my deadlines or had a discussion about priorities with her at the earliest opportunity.

If anything like that was happening in the Home Office I don't blame Patel for getting upset but the way she handled it was still wrong.

‘Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has condemned Mr Johnson’s decision to keep Ms Patel in her post.

“Yet again, the Prime Minister has been found wanting when his leadership has been tested. If I were Prime Minister, the Home Secretary would have been removed from her job,” he said in a statement.

“It is hard to imagine another workplace in the UK where this behaviour would be condoned by those at the top.

“The Government should be setting an example. Instead, it is one rule for Boris Johnson and his friends, another for everyone else.’

Sir Keir Starmer has no experience of private sector commerce. Sometimes things boil over in testing times.

I can imagine that the civil service are a right pain in the &rse to deal with. They’re lucky Cummings has resigned. Hopefully someone else will bring that ‘hard rain’ he promised was coming their way.

Yeh, boiled over in three Departments.

This is my professional domain. I would absolutely not allow this to happen in any workplace

Patel wasn't a leader of people before, she was a lobbyist for tobacco companies. She hasn't a clue but sees fit, despite that, to throw her weight around

Let's see what the Employment Tribunal reveals.

How did she handle it though. It's a high octane job within the home office with very important deadlines and mistakes are costly. Let's wait for the enquiry and decide if her employees were pussies going for the no win no fee line.
After all we live in a claim society.

The desire for immediate results has in many ways removed much of the methodical thinking that made the civil service what it was. They used to be the voice of reason behind the government and the arbiter of common sense but immediacy appears to be the modern way which doesn’t suit it. All in my opinion of course but it’s how I saw it operating when I was Police civil side, albeit some 24 years ago.

Which Enquiry?

There has been one, it was suppressed, its author resigned in fury. Enough said.

He resigned because he saw it doctored or edited.
Resigning was not sensible if he thinks the truth needs telling.

He is a clever chap. Clearly that was a reason to resign. Probably did not approve of his report being whitewashed as that would then reflect badly on him. He wrote:

“I recognise that it is for the prime minister to make a judgment on whether actions by a minister amount to a breach of the ministerial code. But I feel that it is right that I should now resign from my position as the prime minister’s independent adviser on the code.”

His resignation on Friday came in the wake of his findings, based on a Cabinet Office inquiry, concluding that the approach of the home secretary, Priti Patel, “amounted to behaviour that can be described as bullying” – noting instances of shouting and swearing – and deciding that she had therefore breached the ministerial code.

Boris Johnson, however, decided otherwise. As the sole arbiter of the rules, the prime minister stood by Patel, concluding in his view that she had not broken the ministerial code.

So the two disagreed, one a specialist and one not. One who actually ran the enquiry, one who did not. One who was independent and one who was not. I wonder who I trust.

Fair point the most successful managers I worked for had a goofer at every meeting. A couple of days after deadlines were agreed they would chase you up. How's it going, Are you on schedule? Why not? etc.

I wonder if Patel has one of these if not it would explain why deadlines are missed and she gets angry?
