No one would have heard of these songs if it wasn't for the BBC bowing and scraping to a bunch of Tory toffs every year to have their minority sing song on prime time telly, should be shoved on i player so it doesn't interfere with proper telly.

I think you will find these songs were around and well known long before the Proms. You could argue that the BBC daily news shouldn’t be on mainstream tv with its left wing propaganda and it’s sensationalism of otherwise trivial stories.

We did at my school. Last Night of the Proms is a much loved institution that is shown all over the world. One of the better things that the BBC has done over the years is to open it up to the world whilst not losing it's essential Britishness. Look at the flags that are waved apart from the the Union Jack there is the EU flag and flags from all across the world. The German flag is the 3rd moist popular. Conductors and the lead singers often go out of their way to dress up one year a Peruvian soprano appeared in full national dress to sing the songs that BBC wants to ban. The crowd love it juxtaposing Inca dress with Land of Hope and Glory. Bottom line it's just a bit of fun if people don't like it they can always do an alternate woke proms I bet that would be a real wow: - No flags or displays of nationality Zzzzzzzzz Edited by Badger11 (27 Aug 2020 7.37am)

If getting upset with the BBC such a load of tosh by a few white gammons then how comes so many people are upset. It's because they care, if everybody was on board with the BBC they're wouldn't be this public outcry. Yes to some it maybe a storm in a teacup but for many of us it is the BBC daily chipping away at out heritage and traditions. If you don't take a stand when do you? By the way if the Proms is so out of touch with the woke public how come you can't get a ticket? It is massively over subscribed each year.

Jonny Rotten did turn a bit odd and most people grow out of their phase.

'smack my bitch up' would be an appropriate replacement IMO.

Perhaps the biggest irony these days is that the Rage against the Machine track....'Killing in the name of' is probably the most apt tune for us Gammons these days. So the songline that most resonates for me at the moment, and aimed at you loving, caring left wing types is.. 'f*** you, I won't do what you tell me'. Over and over again.
