Reading through this thread I cannot believe how child out people are about this. I cannot believe people compare America with Saudi Arabia. I’m not keen on the yanks and yes for the leaders of the western world they are a bit dodgy.

Yeah the government are not getting involved, it is more evidence of the death of football however. Edited by lefty27 (20 May 2020 10.17pm)

It's a bit unfair on football to say you can't be bought by the Saudis whilst we still sell them arms. Personally I would have nothing to do with most ME countries but that's me. This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I was watching Sunderland Till I Die and it made me think, not only is the takeover of Newcastle morally questionable, but it would also amp up their already irritating supporter base. Supporters in that region have a habit of proclaiming themselves more important than any other supporters in the country, like in the aforementioned documentary where one of their supporters says something along the lines of we're not Charlton or QPR we're Sunderland (forgetting their habit of walking out when things don't go their way). Today I was reading quotes from their supporters around tenuous links with Zaha and they were saying he's not good enough for them. Have they watched their team lately? If this takeover goes ahead then personally I hope they sign lots of big names, bring back Benitez and then get relegated playing the same turgid football they did under his last reign. This could of course all be coming from the grudge I still carry from when they constantly littered the forum during Pardew's reign.

With respect, Benitez was handed the reins with 10 games in the PL remaining and Newcastle one place off the bottom. He was unable to sign any players as the 'Transfer Window' had closed and despite being unbeaten in the last 6 games, they slipped through that relegation trapdoor. Benitez secured immediate promotion for them the following season despite losing a host of players and Newcastle that season received £33 Mill more in transfer fees than they spent. In the PL under Benitez, they finished 10th and 13th but their net spend over the two seasons was £31 Million.

You misunderstood, I know they would probably play better football with better players, my point was I hope they don't! I wanted ASM from the first time he was linked with us as he looks like a Palace type player (exciting, gets the ball up the field, bags of potential) but at the moment he is nowhere near the level of Zaha at his best. Wilf has had a poor season, but if he gets his head right he'll likely prove his doubters wrong (the respect he gets from other players and managers tells you all you need to know).
