Exactly, he has done nothing since becoming DoF, as a former Manager he left us and went to Bolton because he thought that bring him glory, only as a player did he make an exceptional contribution to the club. As DoF he has done nothing just left us drifting without a striker for the last two or three windows, albeit aided and abetted by SP who is frightened to open his wallet!

who knows, but we need to lower the average age of the squad and he obvs ticks that box.

im sure extensive scouting & due diligence has been done.

im excited to see what he can offer

Sure or hopeful?

Rakip
Jach
Mandanda
Meyer, arguably

This sort of transfer is going to be more speculative than most of our transfers so the least we’ll need to ge able to do is sell to the championship or back to Scotland and not have players hanging around for 4-5 years.

Your posts need more balance, you know they aren’t the only signings in his tenure. I am sure you would agree, the ones hat are currently in the first team, he brought in far outweigh the few failures.

Points I’ve made in other threads are that signings made on players who’ve played in the Prem range from good to ok. It’s the others that have been bad signings for various reasons. That is apart from Guaita, but keepers are a different matter and I doubt DF scouts them himself or alone. We need still need to address this because only buying or succeeding with signing Prem experienced players is not a sustainable model. Won’t be for us anyway. We were lucky with AWB being there to save our &rses actually. Otherwise we’d be a lot closer to a few big issues.

It's hard to say how fortunate we were with AWB. For my money, it's challenging for any struggling premier league side to blood kids. We (struggling PL sides) rarely find ourselves a few goals clear and dominant with 20 minutes to go, which is when you can take a calculated risk on a kid.

But when I saw Pierrick, I saw a player who might easily make it and might easily start pinching 20 minutes here and there if they are minutes we can risk.

If he does make it, is that luck too? What if a 3rd kid breaks through? Isn't developing 1st team players part of what the academy is there for?

BTW, AWB had traits -- his snake-like tackling -- that fitted with Roy's set up. In truth, he has yet to show any real attacking threat and could easily regress because his defensive game still has major flaws. So you don't need perfection in a youth player...just qualities that bring something to the team. And a set-up that works for that player.

I have a hunch that fans who know about youth players tend not to say too much about them. Who was AWB before he played?

Our scouting does feel short sighted. That I will accept.

And I will also accept that any reliance on kids/youth is intrinsically risky. But risk is part of the game.

These names always come up. Plus Sorloth, yes they maybe duds but they didn't break the bank. If you can name me one premier side he haven't signed 4 duds in the last few years I'd be very surprised. Yes we remember them because we signed them but all clubs have their share. Some a lot more than us and some at a much greater expense.

3 of those are yesteryear in the championship and grew in a promoted team, 3 are proven and one is a keeper.

I’ve already said a few times our signings outside of the premier league are pretty bad, apart from a keeper. That’s unsustainable. I don’t need to keep repeating myself.

Great to have a young scot sign up. Must be quite highly rated.

Funny enough is that I watched some of the Motherwell v Dundee game and a striker for Motherwell named Long who scored a hatrick that was reminiscent of Dougie Freedman in his style of play

Roy seemed to imply he hadn't fully agreed yet? Wouldn't it be lovely if this lad was a worldie on a 5-year deal.
