Keep saying it and it will become 'true'.

I thought something like that would be your response but it would have to be a fraud of massive proportions including some prominent English historians to revise that history but anyway it doesn't mean enough to me to change your view.
One thing I will say to you and the previous poster it's a bit disrespectful to take the p*ss out of a genuine post when you could do a little bit of research to try to disprove the link I posted. Any way I'll l leave you to it.

I don't dispute the existence of individuals, just their significance and relevance to any conversation about the present.

Need to know the facts of it before discussing this.

If he simply dressed as a rapper and this was seen as some sort of cultural appropriation then a dismissal is very extreme and probably wrong.

If he ‘blacked up’ then there is a major difference. Although I’d argue he should have just been reprimanded as it would clearly be through ignorance rather than any malice.

It’s all guesswork though.

Quite.

That said why should things not be put into pre cultural oppression context. Olivier played othello and other roles in black face. Christopher Lee and Edward G Robinson and (laughably) John Wayne yellowed up for roles. Then it was called acting and no one batted an eyelid. It smacks of latter day witch hunt that a person - and they are always caucasian males - will be hauled over for touching a woman's knee once decades ago or dressing as a minstrel once when they were 11. Rape murder you understand why society wont let them off the hook just because time has passed. But this sort of trivial zeitgeist tosh?

I say what I always say in threads like this and that’s unless something breaks the law then so f***ing what... Thing is that so many seem to forget is that being offended is not a crime...

It’s subjective... for what one person finds offensive the person next to them doesn’t...

As Steven fry said being offended doesn’t give you an entitlement.. it’s just a whine... Deal with it and just get on with life I say..

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Unfortunately in the age that we live in the Twitterati have a huge say in who has offended their sensitive souls

It was a genuine question not a rhetorical one.
In this modern PC era would it be deemed offensive if a black person dressed up in fancy dress as a white pop star ?

Maybe I don't possess the bandwith cerebrally to understand the complexities of this issue but I am more than happy to be educated accordingly to perhaps gain a greater understanding of the issues involved.

We’ve created a whole film whereby two black people dress up as ‘white chicks’ for entertainment purposes. Nothing was said.

I was incredibly offended by this "comedy"...because I wasted my time watching the complete pile of tosh.

Well I guess you could debate the relevance of most individuals in British history at least the ones you know about, but how much do you actually know about Black British history (I use that term for convenience as for me there is only history not white not black just history)
