Not sure if they’re legends or cult hero’s, but for me anyone who played in the 2013-2014 season under Pulis qualifies. 3 points in 10 games and finishing 11th, with a starting lineup of: Spironi Lets face it, even in their prime most of these players wouldn’t get near a starting lineup in the premier league today,

I disagree. In their prime nearly all of them would walk into a lower mid prem team.

He’s your man.... Not sure Billy Gilbert does qualify, I always thought a cult hero was a player who although not the greatest player we’ve ever had, was popular anyway, Sir Billy of Gilbert was just brilliant, a legend full stop. I’ll nominate Clint Hill as my cult hero

In terms of Cult Hero.... Doris - where did that nickname come from and then definitely not a legend but; Phil Barber. In terms of Legend - David Hopkin - as in HLTCO - he has his own phrase...

Exactly this. Originally posted by Pete53
To me a cult hero is someone who may not have been a great, and may well not now be remembered by the greater footballing public, but who endeared themselves to the fans of the club by dint of character and dedication, and who may not even have been universally admired by all fans of a club. A cult is something that has a degree of exclusivity - the worshippers are on the inside, everyone else on the outside. It's a sort of almost unsung admiration,a secret fan club, and perhaps in these days of social media where everyone can express their opinion, and where the media rake over everything and focus in on players and their achievements, achieving cult status is more difficult simply because nothing passes under the radar anymore.
