Lets assume we need 40 pts(yes I know its too early).
That means we need 13 wins against the lets say weaker teams.
So Everton home draw I would say = +1
Sheff U away loss " " " " " = -0
Man Utd away win " " " " " +3
So if we beat Sheff U at home then I think that we are 4pts ahead.
We are going to have seasons whereby luck, injuries or suspensions go against us, but as long as we hold our nerve during those seasons then we can hope for a season where things go our way.
Look at Bolton or Stoke, both got rid of managers that kept them up each season because they wanted to go to another level, well they found another level.

Well I'm sure after that result Parish is leaning back in his chair thinking "Stevie, you've done it again"

A worringly insightful observation

You only need 38 points to stay up these days which we'll get comfortably. Third best away team in the league over the past 12 games. See no reason why we can't match the 49 points we got last year. If we can improve at home, sky's the limit...

Without wanting to sound like the Domesday crew but I know this does, I suspect we will lose at home to Villa Saturday and it completely takes the gloss of the win.

Let's wait and see rather than look to the negative. It's certainly not beyond us to get something from the game.

At last the starting side changed, & subs used earlier. Hopefully it will continue; would attacking teams at home, with width, really be too much for as for?

3 goalless games from Palace in 4 this season including home games v Colchester and Everton.
Inexcusable and a fortunate win v Man U shouldn’t paper over the cracks.
Hodgson can set up to defend but not to create.
I’m so annoyed not to get a cup run and when are the squad players going to get a chance now we’re out of the cup?

Wish I could dear but we’ve just been knocked out the cup with a first team squad playing to a team languishing a few places from the bottom of league 2 whilst villa have just rotated a won 6-1 away to a team in the top 6 of league 2.

I repeat we will lose to Villa on Saturday at home And we won’t score a goal

To all the non-doomsayers. ....

Aren't you going to come onto say how it's only the cup, doesn't matter, it was iur reserves. We made 10 chsnges. we beat Man utd. It will be different against villa.....

Sorry, but f that team we put out can't beat Colchester United, we are in serious trouble.

How do you get -0 against Sheffield ... Surely we would have expected 3 points from that game, especially with our away record? And I would have hoped for a point at home to everton, so I make it -1 at the moment.
