In pre-season he was started up front with Benteke. I thought he did quite well. He's not a great defender or passer, so this is the position I would play him.

I foresee McCarthy being more influential than people are expecting

What does Kouyate add that I'm missing? I honestly don't think I've ever seen him complete a pass to another Palace player. Against Man U, I saw him get the ball twice, and each time, under no pressure, he tapped it directly to a Man U player. I see that every game from him.

Is he so great defensively that we can afford his inability to pass the ball?

It just seems that all our midfielders are defense first, and Kouyate is more of the same. If we play with 5 midfielders, including Zaha and Schlupp/Andros on the wings, then ok, I guess we can deal with Kouyate. Other than that, he seems like a less physical version of Luka, or a less offense version of MacArthur.

I'd prefer a midfielder who could add some offense.

Think from some people it was just a reaction to the Sheff Utd loss. Wanting to change anything and everything. I think Kouyate was right for Utd...come in for the games against top opposition to harry and break stuff up. But agree when we have more possession, Meyer and Victor better options.

Would not mind a starting 11 (at home) like this:
Guita
Ward/Tomkins - Cahill - Kelly - PVA
Luka - Max M - McCarty - Camarasa
Zaha - Ayew.

With Sakho back again, in for Kelly.

Like this 11 as it has a few players who at the moment merit a place on performances, namely Cahill and Ayew. However Luka looks iffy and may not be in. Ward looks under threat judging by this thread and didn't know that Tomo can play there ? Hoping to see Camarasa tonight and see what he can do, as we all know attacking wise what the rest can do, apart from him and that is clearly a weakness. Really could be the only hope but that is for another thread. COYP !!

More completed passes than any other Palace player at OT. So seems you are missing them. That said I did too for at least the first half as pretty sure I made the same comment on the match thread.

None of the fringe players did themselves any favours the other night. Townsend and Meyer were very poor. I expect an unchanged team (unless injury forces a change) from the Man U team.

Been away, but from what I saw on the highlights, looks to me that Mcarthy and Camarasa are taking good shape.
Maybe we can start to shape a new set up now.
Surely we could at least be attempting to secure a striker ready for January and a replacement for the Wilf exit.
