Furthermore, your assumptions about the ease of getting rid of players simply do not stand up to scrutiny. If they did I suspect a number of recent players would have been moved out of the club pretty quickly, whereas in the real world the club had to either pay them to leave or wait for their contract to run out. That is the reality. Last, just because someone has had a good record in the past is not a guarantee of future good performance: it is merely a guide to what might be expected. You seem to ignore that fact. And our previous experiences of signing 'big names' on the wane have not been very encouraging; Davids, Adebayor, Flamini...
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

It may be that the club can already afford to pay 85k a week salary after all the departures: Sako, Puncheon, Souare, Mutch, AWB etc. But for the sake of the discussion, I signalled Riedewald and Wickham as players who are still pretty high earners and could make move for others That is fair enough. It might, however, behoove you to make it clear that if the club can move them on, then x, y, or z might be possible. Or, you could try to be more equivocal sometimes. I think you’d get a lot less push back, unless that is what you are after?
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

Adebayor was lazy, while Ribery is hard working. About Davids..I don't know, I wasn't really watching Palace when he came here (I am honest about this, others may not). It's a bit surprising as Davids was also a fighter and hard working. But I saw that he was already 37 when he joined. Maybe his organism couldn't cut it anymore. Which is not the case for Rivery. The Frenchman can still run and press and fight like very few can.

We aren’t going to be signing a 36 year old on £85k a week, that has never played in the rigours of the Premier. It doesn’t matter how good he was, it just isn’t going to happen.

The rigours of the Bundesliga are even more. Very serious approach there. Guy was used to playing 50 matches or more per years and making World Cup finals. I'm pretty sure he can handle the PL. I know that now many players can, but I'm sure about Ribery. I wouldn't have made this suggestion if I wasn't sure. And once more, his real physical age at which he expresses himself is not 36. Edited by mattteo (13 Aug 2019 4.15pm) Ribery only completed 90 minutes 3 times last season averaging about 50 minutes per game. He's clearly coming to the end of his career and is not worth the money. He was a great player, but not one I'd pursue now.

So doing that in Bayern Munich, one of the best clubs in the world, where competition is so tough, is a feat within itself. That Ribery will sometimes need to be subbed off is one thing. But it's a huge difference to have him on for 70-80 minutes than not at all and play with Meyer 90 minutes. He is also injury free now, so should be able to play more. Sometimes there are years with injuries, but Ribery had just very few days of injuriy since the torn ligament 2 years ago: Edited by mattteo (13 Aug 2019 8.31pm)

With all due respect, in the context of this discussion why state the figure 8 players? Because that's how many players played on average 50 minutes or more for Palace in all games last year. Look it up. 45 games means 4000 minutes. 50 minutes per game means around 2300 minutes. And this was mentioned as a figure for Ribery that was supposed tonmean he played little. It's not really little to play 50 minutes on average of all games.
