The neck breaks from professional hanging - hence the weight and trapdoor. If you hang yourself it tends to be unlikely to break much and death from strangulation and damaged/ broken trachea. Don't ask me how I know.

This does tally with what I've read about what happened though. That it is possible that it happened as result of him hanging himself, though occurs more frequently in strangulation.

That said, he may well have done it himself, but have been given room and reason to do so. It's very suspicious though, and it looks to have been determined that one way or another he wouldn't be around for long.

I heard the recordings were not actually set properly and the guards were asleep. Check the guards' bank accounts in around a year's time and you will have all the answers you need.
