Why are Zaha ( if he's still at the club ) and Kouyate unlike to feature in our first game ?

Only because they haven’t been training with the squad. Wilf supposed to be back for Hertha Berlin, I imagine Kouyate will be back even later given Senegal got to the final. Knowing Roy like we do, bless him, he will have to be sure they are fully drilled before letting them loose on the PL.

If they are match fit then they will play.

They've played under Hodgson enough to know what his expectations are.

I am sure if Zaha is fit he will play against Everton (presuming we don't sell him). Kouyate will probably be on the bench but WTFDIK

Seems like we're waiting for someone to cough up for Wilf before we shell out further, but then it'll be too late I guess. Villa throwing cash about & we're going through the bins looking for fag butts

Fulham were throwing the cash about this time last year and that went well. Apart from AWB (and Batsman) we have the same squad that ended last season so strongly. If only Benteke could start scoring again, then I am sure we will be fine. If he remains barren and we sell Zaha then I fear the worst.

A few months the break can cause us all to forget Manager traits.

Batshuayi isn’t the right fit for us in many matches because he’s useless miles from goal receiving the ball without any support very close to him, or in the air anywhere, but he is a big reason why we rallied at the end of the season.

When I read people pinning hopes on Benteke I get the kidding yourself alarms going off especially with comments like ‘If only Benteke could start scoring again, then I am sure we will be fine.’

‘IF ONLY.’ Big if and big hope.

The right back we can still cover. The forward we haven’t signed yet concerns me.

Otherwise as it is we’ll be alright, probably with some time spent in the lower reaches unless we get the rub of the green and edge a few wins in our cautious aims of 0-0 or 1-1 and get some wins. But if Zaha gets injured for a while we could be really in trouble and debates over relying on one player will begin, but if we don’t get a bid closer to £80mil than what we’ve had then that’s where we are.

I think the other factor to consider is that other teams have made additions, whether this makes them any better of course remains to be seen. They say you can't stand still and the reality is at the moment we have gone backwards. Whilst Puncheon and Sako may not have been great,at the moment their replacements will be from the same under 23's who got thrashed 6-2 by Barnet. We ideally need another 3-4 players to strengthen,

If Benteke can score 2-3 goals in the first handful of games, his confidence may be back and we have a striker who can score 15-20 goals. However after 2 barren years it's a big if, and if he has a zero return, we have a striker with dented confidence again. There are doubts whether Wickham will ever make it back to where he was before, if indeed he doesn't break down again. We then have Sorloth and Ayew as forwards.

I know there is a lot of if's but at the moment I would say the odds of Benteke hitting form, Wickham being injury free and Sorloth adapting are incredibly high.

Not done any pre season as they've been at Afcon. As has Ayew but he's back training.

I would contend that all they need is the rest they are getting. They don't need a pre season. They are due back next week and I fully expect both to be available for the Everton game.

Are you suggesting Hodgson would leave out a fit and available Zaha ? I really don't think so

As I recall Milivojevic went straight back in after last year's world cup but looked jaded for a bit.
