What I will add is that he has worked on his weaker right foot in the summer and scored goals with it this season. Edited by Willo (04 Jan 2020 9.06am) If you’d said cuts inside in the mould of Robben I’d have been excited. Townsend, not so much.

I was speaking to a couple of Hull season ticket holders on twitter and they said they would be absolutely gutted if they sold him. They stated on numerous occasions that he is by far the best player in the championship currently.

He's in the last 6 months of contract (6 not 18, I don't know when you spoke to your friends). Palace should be all over this. I imagine it wouldn't be the only club in the PL, but surely the Top 6 will still let him grow, not just take him direclty from the Championship and the possibility that Palace offers him the best wage is high. Also should be all over some more players who end their contracts in the summer: Ryan Fraser (who I really don't think will go to Liverpool or another Top 6 club), leaving him with the possibility of accepting an offer from similar teams to Bournemouth. It's only that he should be offered a decent salary for his skills and he's like on 25.000 at Bpurnemouth. They seem to be much poorer than Palace. Also finishing contracts are Callejon, James Milner (who every mid-table club should want to take for a few years), Matuidi, Aranguiz of Leverkusen and the Chile team, Kurzawa.... Palace should at least make offers, doesn't matter if they might not come. But should be right there, talking to those players' agents. I can't imagine a better destination for Bowen. Last 6 months of contract...just pay them 5 million. If they don't want to, wait him out and sign him for free. A decent Bowen salary will not be more than 80.000. Say 4 years. That's 17 million at most- expenses in salary. Plus (or not) 5 million to buy, you still have a small invested sum in a 23 year old player who will be worth at least 30 million at any point in which you decide to sell (maybe 60-80 million in 2 years if he does well) and is definitely going to bring the club a lot of money with his goals and contributions and a better league position. Hull have a clause to extend his contract for a year so whilst his current contract has 6 months remaining, if Hull chose to take the option of an extension they can. Hull know they can extend this so aren't willing to accept lower offers. I have no idea why they haven't invoked the extension yet.

There are not many potential transfers that look positive from all angles ie age, cost, potential, ability etc but this one seems to have the lot. On that basis we are guaranteed to screw up and he will probably sign for Southampton or Brighton

It explains a lot. I can now see why they want 25 million. Even if a settlement could be agreed, he'd still cost 15. As for the others, Callejon, James Milner, Aranguiz or Kurzawa don't have such an option and can sign for free with whoever they want. Matuidi I think can be tied down by Juventus one more year, similar to Bowen. Napoli proposed Callejon a weekly salary of 25.000 pounds per week. Surely you must have heard of thr Italian team Napoli and their offensive force of Insigne, Maertens and Callejon, even if you don't follow European football. This guy is amazing. His salary is very low for what he offers. Sure,he's a right footed right winger, but he's an all-rounder, able to play on pretty much any position. A lot like James Milner. I'm also curious what club from mid-table Milner will chose from the summer onwards.

when a club has an option to extend a contract, does the player have to agree to this extension or is it literally, the clubs choice & player has to fall in line?

Clubs choice as the player agreed to the extension option when they signed the contract. I think the reason they haven't triggered it yet is they have been trying to negotiate a new contract with him first. We have the same option to extend Guaita's contract for a year too.
