I just don't understand the obsession with Wagner. He did well in the Championship to scrape into the play offs. His first season in the Premiership he did very well. That's largely because he and his team were an unknown quantity, were written off and under estimated by many people and they had a game plan which for a while worked.
Once they had been figured out it was always going to be game over because Huddersfield have not got the quality to turn a game and their tactics became transparent.
As soon as this became clear (as well as the fact that excessive fouling, diving, etc was no longer having any impact) Wagner walked, presumably to protect his reputation as a manager that hasn't been relegated. Problem is though that they were rock bottom when he left and although results may not have improved since he left performances certainly have so I'd say Wagner most definitely must take a large slice of responsibility for Huddersfield's relegation.
Don't get me wrong, I think once they'd been figured out even Pep would not have been able to save them but that still doesn't mean he has done anything to warrant being in demand in the best league in the World

Although not in my top three choices, one that I'd consider is David Wagner who as you say is currently without a club. He has some premier League experience and I have heard that he is respected amongst the sports journalist community. I would be slightly worried that he walked away from Huddersfield when the going got tough though.

I would agree with this. There was a really good interview with him in the times on saturday. Well worth reading.

Personally I don’t think we have to look that far for Roy’s replacement. We are blessed with options proper Palace people waiting in the wings:

Frank De Boer – warrants a 2nd chance for being Dutch and those Jim Bergerac chinos
Alan Pardew – warrants a 2nd chance for being a flash c*nt & that dance @ Wembley
Dougie Freedman – loyalty personified and his transfer dealings of late have been first class
Jim ‘The Racist’ Cannon – just the kind of character who would spark up an international dressing room
Julian Speroni = he’s got no FA coaching bags, he’s not even our goalkeeping coach BUT he bleeds red & blue and has an eaterie in the main stand

That and the fact that he did an unbelievable job with Huddersfield. ...getting them up was huge, keeping them up for even one season was huge. I don't think any manager could have kept them up for a second season.

....But you think he is the only man that could have kept them up in the first season?
Rubbish.
Even Holloway (who turned out to be out of his depth) nearly kept little Blackpool up.
Wagner is overrated by some on here. I'll bet he wont be back in the Premiership any time soon

I like the Gerrard suggestion (if we could get him). Would be a bit like when we recruited Steve Coppell - great player, very young and inexperienced as a manager, respected by players, everything to prove. But why would Gerrard leave Rangers?
Further thought: We all know Roy will retire sooner rather than later, so why isn't a replacement already lined up and working as his assistant? Maybe Popovich would be interested in deputising for a year or two (if he could be tempted back from Oz to the grey skies of SE25).

Possibly because they’re sh**e and won’t win anything unless Celtic decide to keep Neal Lennon as manager.

Do we really think that a change of management would be of help especially with our lack of funding within the transfer windows!
Hmm!

For those arguing for a change of manager:

No to big name former players and yes to someone like Hodgson who has a ton of experience in the lower leagues, and has a record of doing what we need.

Mid table security and a cup run will do it for me.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

When a club first gets promoted to the PL its fans are delirious with joy. For the next few seasons they are satisfied if their team avoids relegation. Staying up is an achievement in itself and one to be proud of. But as time goes by, complacency sets it. Mere survival is, as Danny Kelly puts it, the thinnest of gruel. It’s no longer sufficient to satisfy the appetite of the fans. Aspirations outstrip stretched finances as expectations soar. The fans turn on the manager and the Charlton Syndrome sets in. ‘He’s taken us as far as he can’, they cry. ‘Let’s ditch him for someone who can take us to the next level.’ They call for the man who showed promise when failing in his previous job or the recently retired player with little experience who is looking for his next stepping stone. In reality there is no sustainable ‘next level’. The best that can be achieved is the mere survival that the fans reject. The inexorable clamour to ‘push on’ ends in failure and the club returns to the ranks from which it came. Hope springs eternal of a swift return to the Premiership, so that the cycle can begin again.
