There were 4 bad challenges on Luka yesterday, two by Murray (I don't know how he escaped a red card) plus the player, (I forget his name) who committed about 4 or 5 bad challenges in the space of about 10 minutes in the first half and I don't think even got a yellow.

Whilst I agree that the **** who tackled Luka in the first 15 seconds should have been shown a red no doubt there, the Ref did not cost us the game yesterday in fact he could easily have given a penalty against Scott Dann.

You very rarely get sendings off that early in the game, no matter what referee is officiating. Letter of the law he defo should of gone for that challenge. Dann's challenge merited a penalty but the early incident may of clouded his judgement. Clearly they need help.

if that is true, maybe in the Watford game someone should cut Capoue off at the knees 40 seconds in, Deeny 15 seconds later and put them out of the game, knowing that they are safe from a red card, AS ITS TOO EARLY IN THE GAME !!! Wouldnt be too early if it was one of our players doing the deeds!

I wish one of our players wouldd do the deed. Get lots of yellows fof silly things, might as well make them worth while and maybe other teams wouldn't see us as such a soft touch.

Our players are so f*cking green. They wouldn’t even have that conversation, too busy listening to their sh*t music and sorting out their braids.

Yep saw that one too. Could have been a pen against Dann.

I'm not saying we would have won the game against 10 men but I think we would have got a point.

So what? They had a player sent off early in the match at Brighton yet they their ten men still managed to put three goals past us so perhaps we should be thankful that he wasn't sent off

Remind me what the score was in the game at Brighton against ten men?

Referees across the board are terrible. I cannot think of even one who can do the job adequately, let alone exceptionally. Martin Atkinson evokes the least amount of pant shatting when you see his name, John Moss the most.

This is all down to the culture of refereeing: "Game management" rather than rule enforcement.

The difference between the Palaces of the world and the Uniteds of the world boils down to a difference in attitude towards this fact.
Whilst our players are left to rue bad decisions and flap arms, the players at the big clubs accept the fact that the refs are s*** and take advantage. They practice all manner of conning and deception. They have been told "if you get a touch you need to show us" so they hone their diving skills. That's just making the most of it.
Referees are concerned with "game management", so what do clever players like Ferandinho and Xhaka do? They rack up 10-15 niggly fouls a match which they know will go unpunished by the ref but will ruin any counter attack.

Refereeing isn't going to get better so we have to change our approach. The captain should ride the ref all game long, our players should put in the cynical fouls, and yes: we should be diving about all over the place. Whether you get the fk or get a card, just shrug your shoulders and get on with it. It's the public calling out they don't like, not the cheating.

Agreed.

And I think the powers that be have left things drift for too long for anything to change. Simple rule enforcement - particularly foul throws and placement of the ball for free kicks - appears to have been abandoned.

It also struck me on Saturday that Pawson would have been more likely to have sent Knockhaert off had the response to the foul from our bench and players been more assertive.
