Best goal I saw live was Palace at Chelsea in the days of the shed. We were 1-0 up from a scrambled goal when much like yesterday Chelsea cleared their lines only for a Palace player to volley it into the back of the net. I maybe wrong but I think it was Billy Gilbert. Sadly there were no cameras at the game. I was in the shed end as a guest of a Chelsea friend. As the ball hit the back of the net and the snarls started my friend put his hand on my shoulder and said "don't you dare." He was right I had forgotten where I was and was about to over celebrate. I think the game ended in a draw not that I cared the goal was worth the admission. Ah the shed such a lovely place full of nice people. Update: Edited by Badger11 (23 Dec 2018 3.44pm) I was there - packed in like sardines & locked in one of the cages at the away end. Stamford Bridge was a real dump in those days. Still remember the goal though - came right out of the blue! (no pun intended)

Salako against forest? Away in the league cup blue kit? Great shout. Well worth the numerous trips to Forest to see that goal. Pele tried it and missed....
Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs. |

I would say that yesterdays goal was the most, crucial/important/pivotal goal i have seen. It's no lie we need to buck the trend and start showing what we are made of and solidify ourselves as a mid table club with aspirations and to cut the rub of the green. Yesterdays goal was spectacular, showed the club what we have in our locker, let lady luck give us some help and has given us some confidence into the xmas period which could see us climb out and away from the bottom teams, and kick on and start to look forward. It's pivotal.
This was once a quality forum.... |

I agree Brights in that game and the volley at Plough lane by Wright I suppose when you also consider the quality of the keeper yesterday I agree Townsend takes it. If we're talking about own goals then I nominate Tony Popovic against... Portsmouth I think?

How about Ian wright's first vs Man Utd in the 1990 cup final? It's one of the best I've seen live.

OK my shout. Townshend and Ambrose were extraordinary but I was not at either but of those when I was at the game I shall nominate two that stick in my mind. 1. Jamie Scowcroft’s rocket at Wolves a few years back - to win the match. 2. Victor Moses coming in from the left, dropping his shoulder to round the Reading defence at the Madjeski - so we were comfortably up at half time .......but we went on and lost! (And from that game is another memory at the end from the Reading fans that was something like “Three nil and you f***ed it up”).
Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time! |
