I've never experienced as much division with the palace fans as i do now. At school, you found a palace fan amongst the chelsea, utd's etc and you were automatically mates. Now, you see a young kid in black to complement his palace shirt, you think 'wannabe HF t***'.... relating to that, there are two types of people - Pro HF, pro block E. When it comes to parish, it's either his lover or hater. Our fan base has been diluted 100% - we used to worry about what the new shirt looked like and who the sponsor was - that's literally all we cared about. Now it's 'what will the new stand look like - will you follow my blog - sign my petition - hey PVA, retweet me'. Anyways, you get the point. I do blame parish for a lot of this - Parish does this job to be liked, he won't make the tough calls. This summer should have been a painful cull, expensive to replace but wouldn't have hurt the pocket in jan, next summer at the least. Spend 50 mil now and watch it gel for two years, or spend 17 mil every 6 months course correcting.
This was once a quality forum.... |

I mentioned this the other day in terms of the fine lines there are in the Premier League. Ignoring for the moment RH's reluctance to use substitutes, he prepares the team well and he can't be responsible for those individual events that have cost us points. But there doesn't look to be any light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. I certainly get where the OP is coming from. After 6 seasons in the Premier League we haven't progressed to the point where we look capable of avoiding an annual relegation battle. You could argue that it all adds to the excitement, typical Palace etc., but I for one hoped that this season would be different. I still believe there will be three teams below us come the end of the season but at the moment I feel as tired and dejected as Roy looks at the moment.

There are probably 22,000 Palace fans at every home game whilst there are a couple of hundred regulars on HOL and a few more than that on the BBS so there are still 21,000 that aren't into forums and probably don't give a monkeys about the HF or Block E

I’ve been thinking it was just me so it’s gratifying to see that I’m not alone in these views. The board seem obsessed with the “singing section” they are prepared to alienated several thousand fans to appease 400 or so most of whom won’t turn up if we get relegated (where we’re you when we were s**t in the championship). The board and the management team have lost sight of the real objective,to make the club one that can compete at the top level, one the supporters could be proud of. money needed to have been spent in the summer and some hard decisions needed to have been made about the squad. Basically I feel they chickened out. The have forgotten the majority of fans, some of us have to make real efforts to get to games, on Sunday I’ll have to leave home at 8 get 3 trains and a ferry and won’t get back home until 8pm. I feel that they take us all for granted we are simply “cash cows” to buy overpriced merchandise moody expensive food and very overpriced drinks.

Following on from this. Yes we don't seem to have progressed but how did WBA, Stoke, Swansea fair when trying to progress? You could name a load of teams who have been in the Prem for years and failed to establish themselves as nothing more than battling for relegation, Sunderland and Newcastle to name two more. It's the Premier League, dubbed the most competitive league in the world, where most teams in and around us have similar quality players meaning most games hang on a decision from the ref, one piece of quality or lack off in our case - which i put down to confidence at the moment. We've certainly been unlucky, hitting the post more than any other team this season (MotD2 stat I believe), good chances missed inc penalties now. With Wickham coming back, this should boost the confidence of the players as on his day he's a solid lone striker. I hoped with Roy and how we ended last season we'd have more points by now but our squad has changed due to loans, contracts ending etc so to expect more than just a relegation fight is too much in my eyes. We are better than Hudderfield, Cardiff, Fulham, Newcastle and we can pick points up off any other team in the league on our day. We just need a confidence boost from a big/unexpected win like Chelsea at home last year and confidence improves, results improves and it's not all doom and gloom on these forums COYP!

Cabaye was shipped off so his salary could be wiped off the books, same with Sako, Schlupp is a waste of wages but was part of Sam's plans to keep us up, 3 out of 4 were essential signings (Luka, PVA and Mama) - and you can't just 'cull' players who are on a long term contract,, like Mutch. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, most of us have agreed with everything SP has done at the time - appointments of Pulis, Pardew, Big Sam, and the signings, inc Benteke, some of us were unsure about de Boer and Roy but one turned up trumps. We were doing brilliant last spring, it's a shame not to have kicked on but gone back to square one yet again, and I'd prefer us to be grooming talent more than marquee signings (and Doogie's ones for the future!), but some of the negativity here is real spoilt brat stuff, or people in ordinary careers throwing stones at the high achievers - which is a massive bore.

I keep reading the HF or whoever won’t turn up in the championship. Blocks A, B and C were full in the championship. It was front 7-10 rows of the rest of the lower and the first 10-15 or whatever around the goal which were empty or sparse.

I know. I’ve been a heavy critic of Parish’s but this is fact rather than opinion. The situation n the summer was dissected and scrutinised heavily on the BBS and it was predicted even less might be spent. As it turned out we did and spent roughly what I thought we would. This doesn’t excuse Parish because transfer policies and the longer term football management deserves criticism, and that’s exacerbated by management changes. It’s a vicious circle of mistakes followed by fire fighting and some of it starts with trying to get away with not covering a position(s) in August, and then inevitably spending more on them in January. The left back and Sorloth events are perfect examples. Edited by Rudi Hedman (23 Oct 2018 11.02am)

In a parallel universe somewhere we are enjoying our fifth consecutive season dominating the premier league. Unfortunately for those stuck in this reality it's the same miserable cr@p endured year upon year. It's the frustration of knowing that we're really not that awful. We've seen what we can do and yet we always default to this gutless style, no passion, no commitment. The pleasure that came from watching Palace was seeing players like Delaney playing way beyond expectation and grinding out results. There is zero joy in watching Townsend, Macarthur, Luka etc bumbling round like it's the first pre season training session.

I totally feel like this: "and whats more worrying is i have ZERO enthusiasm for going to the arsenal game on sunday. ive never felt like this in the 20 years of supporting palace" I'm usually optimistic about most things in life even in the dark days with Palace (e.g. Pardew losing streak etc) but currently this feels frustrating and demotivating and making me feel like f*ck it I'll stay home with the wife on Sunday.

Probably 0 goals at home this season, little to offer in an attacking sense and the fact that the expectancy is for Arsenal to dominate the game and emerge victorious is a factor !
