Maybe Roy has reached the mourinho stage were his style of management is outdated tactically at the level he's trying to perform at but without a striker in the mould of a Murray or Johnson type character we aren't going to get much better than we are now

walking down the holmesdale road to see the palace aces!

For substitutions to change a game you need players who are either different or better than the players on the pitch. Our problem is nobody on the bench was of better quality than the players on it nor of a type to change the shape of the game. We were matching Everton , for 85 minutes , so why would you want to bring on players of lesser ability or players that could not change the shape of the team. Roy did nothing wrong the footballing Gods are just not with us at the moment.

A sensible post at last. Everton fielded a team that cost over £300m and had expensive subs on the bench. Their Thai owners have thrown a lot of money in to try and break into the top 6. Roy had a game plan, that was working well to get a point or maybe 3 if we got a breakaway goal.
It was working well until the 87 min, why change if the plan was working, we were never going to get anything after that, we pushed up and got caught on the break.

Sorry but that’s rubbish. They brought on two fresh faces in the 82nd minute and our response to that was a big fat zero just like usual. If he had made a couple of changes things could have been completely different.

Changing shape yes i know the players arnt there.
But on 70 mins a point would have been a good result. So swap like for like and 'respect the point' (BFS).
When at i0 mins they made fresh changes and all strikers roy should have pushed their midfield back with fresh legs.
Thats surely minimum to give our defenders a slight rest.

Poor Hodgson went through thr wringer last season and performed a miracle in keeping us up.

What many saw as his strengths last season IE rigid tactical discipline and organisation is now seen as a weakness.

Reading a number of the posts, in many eyes he has gone from hero to zero.

There’s no denying Roy did a great job last season keeping us up but that was last season. Pardew did a great job at first but look what happened with him. Would you want him back?

Absolutely spot on. Whilst goalless I commented on our supporter group page that they were getting the better of us and that YET AGAIN there was no reaction from Hodgson. Everton make the changes which make all the difference and we go two down at which point Roy thinks it's the right time to make a change. Roy worked wonders last year but with the squad we have this season has been unacceptable and time and time again it has been down to a lack of freshening things up or changing the game plan before it's too late. Today was the final straw for me. With the squad that we have another manager could do much much better

Who is on the bench who could come on and make a difference?

Kaikai for townsend and Reidewald for macarthur.bit more pace up front and a more defensive midfielder.

We never took our chances which is our biggest problem but when they brought on more attackers Roy should’ve responded by bringing on Kelly and Riedewald to see the game out. His dislike of changing the team has cost us many points at the end of games.

They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks and that looks so true in Roy’s case !

Roy has pretty much said the same in other words along the lines of 'our subs have to improve the first 11 of or there's no point in changing things'. I don't fully agree with that as regardless of who is better on paper things need changing for other reasons ie fitness, tactics etc

Sorry but this thread Roy and substitutes would probably not have been raised if luka had put penalty away and Tompkins guilt edged header gone in .Lukas pen worse since bentekes. One up maybe become a tad more defensive and 3 points We miss and it's Roy's fault.Do feel some weeks needs to make changes but yesterday not one of them

I don't agree at all that our substitutes aren't good enough to the extreme that there isn't even any point bringing them on.

We haven't seen KaiKai properly, so hard to make a judgement on him.

Reidewald has had some good games for Palace - notably the game against Man City last Christmas. He certainly is capable of playing if needed.

We had no striker on the pitch - surely Wickham was fit enough to play longer than 1 minute. Otherwise why was he on the bench yet if not?

Ayew has been starting recently so I don't believe Hodsgon now deems him not good enough to come off of the bench.

It's confusing the minimal substitutes used - especially when we are all crying out asking him to make them.

Not really as it's been raised plenty of times before on here and in non-internet conversations. Everton used subs and won the game.
